Packing the Den

With two weeks remaining until play-in Saturday West Fargo & South's teams are all still battling for position before the standings go final. It will take a lot for West Fargo's girls move up from their current fourth seed position while South's are in a three-team race for the seventh seed. The Bruin boys are also currently pegged to play during the first weekend but the opportunity to move remains with three games to go. That is also the case for West Fargo as they are currently just behind Davies & Sheyenne.

And so came Saturday's meeting of the teams.

Thanks in part to a simple but effective strategy of doubling Adie Wagner every time she possessed the ball West Fargo took control early and never let the game get closer than 22 points in the second half.

Miriley Simon had 13 points in each half as well as 10 total rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Solveig Seymour (12), Brylie Peterson & Jasmine Williams (11 each).

A 10-point second half got Wagner to a tie with Teigan Malo for the team lead with 12 points.

South lead for much of the second game but as they have several times this season, West Fargo displayed winning pedigree. Down five points with time winding down Diamond McGill also showed the stuff that it takes to succeed in a pressure situation. His three with 37 seconds left was followed by an overly-physical foul and a technical which sent Carson Hegerle to the line for four shots. That proved to be the tell-tale portion of the contest.

Hegerle finished with a game-high 22 points. Nick Carlson & Foday Sheriff added 16 apiece while Brett Limke scored 11.

Cole Kegbeh, William Lacher & Dean Grant each scored 11. James Hamilton finished with 13 and McGill had the team-high with 18.
