You can see chapter 1 here. Because I'm not looking to take up screen space unnecessarily I'm going to leave the basis of my approach in chapter 1 so if you want to know, you'll have to go back.
The next pick in this nearly 70 day journey that I'm taking is the sixth rounder. Everyone knows that the offensive line is blindingly in need of improvement. Some of the early mock drafts have the Vikings going in very different directions then that, which I couldn't disagree with more. As great as the defense can be, this off season it's all about the guys who aren't supposed to get much attention.
Every pick is a gamble but the later in the process, the higher the odds of missing on each selection become. Of all the positions, offensive line may have a higher flop rate then others because the majority of colleges have gone away from pro style play. It probably affects QBs the most but the guys who play ahead of them have to be shortly behind on the list.
Round 6
All that said, swinging for offensive linemen should be at the top of the list in basically every round but other positions need to be addressed as well. I say go with the best blocker on the board and don't look back. There's a group of about 12 projected to be available at the sixth. Everyone of them has a knock but the one whose shortcoming is the most easily correctible may be Brad Seaton, a tackle from Villanova. It's a fact that players from the FCS - even Carson Wentz - go lower then they would if they played in any of the FBS schools. Such may be the case with Seaton. More will be known after all the poking and proding happens but the sixth round is the bottom of the projection so if he's available when the brain trust is up, I would be in.
If the line is addressed early and often then I would say that Running Back should be the position to address. This may be as loaded of a RB class as we'll see for the next decade or more so getting one or better yet, two from this crew would be a great call. As a Matt Asiata replacement I'd go with James Connor and then bring in Khalid Abdullah from James Madison after the draft is done.
What do you think?
Are there other guys who should be considered? Maybe a different position group in the sixth?
