Round 5
This is where things could begin or end being a whirlwind of activity. Trades could abound on days two or three of the draft for the Vikings. It makes more sense for the Vikings to roll with as many picks as they can, as high in the draft as they can, but Rick loves amassing selections so anything is possible in five, six & seven.
As it stands, they have one pick in the round. Fortifying the wall takes precedent and this could be a good time to get a center. The entire group of lineman is weak this year but it's rarely going to be truly great because of the development of them in college. The crew of centers may be the weakest part of the group. But sometimes there are diamonds in the rough.
He may not be available when the clock starts moving on their fifth rounder but Kyle Fuller is a center I'd like them to come away with. Coming out of a pass happy offense at Baylor he should have at least some idea of pass blocking concepts and he graded out as a decent run blocker. Someone who can do both parts of the job as a mid - late round pick would be GREAT!
The other position which may be worth addressing in the fifth would be defensive tackle. Maybe the Vikings will shock me and keep Sharif around but I'd rather see them bring in someone who hasn't spent so many games on the sideline. If the hole is opened on the line & they don't go O line, I'd say they could end up with Ryan Glasgow from Michigan. He had his best seasons after Harbaugh showed up in Ann Arbor. Since he already responded well to pro coaching of that sort, I don't think it's a stretch to think he could continue to improve under more NFL caliber tutelage.
Neither player is without their warts but none are in the later stages. Getting a center or a defensive tackle in the fifth with either one having first year potential is always worth the roll of the dice. But what do you think? Any other positions or players worth keeping an eye on?
