Football is said to be the ultimate team sports. But teams with good quarterbacks win far more often then teams with average to below average QB's. Baseball is a team sport full of individuals. Do your part and your team flourishes, don't and it won't. Basketball in contrast can often be about one premiere player, surrounded by average talents. I don't dispute that individuals have a great deal to do with the success or failure in ball but the North Dakota class A games tonight and last night are standing that teams still best individuals.
Last night it was Bismarck Century coming up aces against a Dickinson team that had two future Division one players. Today it was Bismarck Legacy getting it done against a Shanley team that was going for a third straight championship and also has a player going to NDSU to play ball.
Working together is a tougher thing and can create issues when people aren't on the same page but when a team is actually a team it can do great things. I would have liked to have seen Shanley continue their legacy & I can't help but think what it means that a team called Legacy got the better of them.
And no doubt I will enjoy watching these future Bison players once they get into town and on campus and get to work. But the lesson should already have started, that success comes to teams even when the opponents might have more talented individuals.
So congratulations to the Bismarck Legacy Girls Basketball team on the Class A championship but don't forget what teamwork can bring you!
