There are a bunch of guys deserving of the MVP award. All of them have been in the association for years. Several of them have won previously. Lebron James is the one that people may identify if the don't follow basketball. Russell Westbrook and James Harden are deservedly the front runners for those who pay a little closer attention. When you produce for their teams like they have and their teams succeed at the level that they have then winning an MVP is a just reward. Karl - Anthony Towns is playing like a man who deserves to be in the conversation. He deserves a vote or two or three.
He's the second player this season to set a scoring record for the Timberwolves and is showing no signs of slowing down. What's more, he's beginning to get some recognition league wide with the presentation of the Western Conference player of the week. He's not a legitimate MVP candidate this year because of those other guys but he should get a little bit of inclusion because of how he's playing!
His deservedness may not be on better display the rest of the year then it was against the Wizards on Monday night. If you didn't watch the game, at least watch the highlight video, but you missed out.
39 Points
13 rebounds
65% shooting
Honestly though, the stats don't do his play justice. He's just on another level right now and the team is winning as a result. Sure he's not the only one.
Rubio set a single game record for assists with 19, 10 of which came in the first quarter. He was clowning people with the passes he was making and it was phenomenal! He also dropped 22 points to finish second on the team in scoring. Ricky Rubio scoring more then Andrew Wiggins, who had 15, is a great sign for this team because it keeps his confidence up and Wiggins will return to the 20+ scorer that he's been so often this season.
It would have been nice if they could have kept the winning alive on Saturday but there are legitimate factors that played into that loss, even if it wasn't admitted to. If they keep playing like this they will be close to a .500 team at the end of the year. Whether that'll be enough to make the playoffs can't be said right now but it would get them very close!
The heaviest part of it rests on the young, strong shoulders of the TimberKAT. When the results are announced he fully deserves to be in the category of also receiving votes. From there, All NBA & NBA All Star should follow suit! Please, vote for him! For now, the team just needs to keep doing what they're doing and good things will come as a result, as they already have!
