It's been a few days since the 32 teams of the NFL spent their games as a platform to retort comments by the President. The ripples of it have also extended beyond the gridiron in the ensuing days.. Even so, the only local angle to the whole circus is that the Vikings participated in the proceedings, though in a more respectful way then several other teams.
I've heard some say that Trump shouldn't have gotten involved, and considering that he was critical of Obama for some involvement in sports, I can see their point. But something I haven't heard may be too outlandish for even the most extreme of conspiracy theorists.
That Trump knew exactly what he was doing with his original statement and subsequent statements. That he though he isn't doing things that inspire much confidence from me, he's not the doddering old fool that many tried to make him out to be. Fact - he wasn't supposed to win the election but under the current system he crushed the pant suit.
His confidence during the pre-election season was bluster but he was proved right. But don't forget that for long before he was the commander in chief he was a high profile business man that knows all the owners of these NFL teams, some of them very well. So at a time when there were stirrings in the NFL of players vs. ownership who better then the most powerful friend of those billionaires to make a statement to unify them. That it it draws attention away from those in the Hurricane hit areas who need and deserve it may be a side affect but I don't think it's beyond the reach of the calculations.
Maybe I'm giving this president too much credit but politics aside, he has a long history of making the show run the way he wants it to. With that in mind, his billionaire buddies benefitted from him taking the proverbial bullets more then anyone else. So I think it was an intentionally crafted set of comments from old Donald. I mean come on, think about it, he was on another one of his annoying rally stops and made the comments "spontaneously."
Maybe it's too far out in left field but I think there is some merit to the possibility. We'll never know for sure but it's something to consider and whether you agree or not say something about it over in the chat section!
