FEATURED

Sunday Roundup

Vikings

A Sunday without the Vikings is boring but a national display of greatness by some of their best players makes up for it. I know they came up short on the scoreboard but against the favorite to make to the championship from the NFC it was a massive improvement. For the rest of reaction to the game peep the Pick Six.

Bison

NDSU served up their Volleyball team against the birdies to start their sports week. They fell in five sets only to rebound with a 3-0 win over South Dakota on Friday only to drop another one today to Denver.

Also on the precipice of the weekend came a double overtime win by the Soccer team over Western Illinois. Hanna Norman put the ball into the net for the lone goal of the match. That narrow win was followed by a 5 - 1 win over Fort Wayne. Norman scored the first of this one and was joined in the box score by Mariah Haberle with two goals.

The women's Golf team had a strong showing in Iowa with a second place team finish and a co-champion finish by Taylor McCorkle. As Amy (Anderson) Olson continues to ascend on the LPGA the Bison may have their next great gal Golfer on campus!

Both Cross-Country teams were also in action this weekend. The men managed a 10th place finish, paced by Tim Heikkila, while the women got all the way to third place. Kelby Anderson lead the way for the ladies with a third place finish of her own out of more than 150 runners.

All that's left is the Dakota Marker game. Check the latest Pick Six for my reaction to that big win by the Football team!

Dragons

Before September has concluded my prediction for the Dragons win/loss has already proved to be too low. Great! The better all the teams do, the better it is for all involved. And I want what's best for all the local teams! But that early fourth victory proved to be the lone bright spot of the weekend.

Soccer and Volleyball each took to their playing surface at home but were shutout on Friday.

Both Cross Country teams, Golf and Volleyball all shared Saturday with the Football team but the three that concluded also came up short against their opponents.

Sunday's results from the links weren't yet posted but the Soccer team again fell scoreless.

Those results pretty much speak for themselves, no commentary needed.

Cobbers

The men's Golf team started Concordia's week with one day of play in the Twin Cities and came home with a 7th place finish. The Soccer teams weren't far behind with a match by each team against Macalester on Tuesday. The men's team fell 3-0 while the ladies tied 1-1.

On Friday the Volleyball team kept it from becoming too much of a streak with a 3-0 win over Carlton. They repeated the performance on Saturday against Saint Mary's. The rest of Saturday's players weren't quite as successful.

Football & men's Soccer each stumbled in blowout's. Both Golf teams finished outside the top four in their respective meets. The women's Soccer team made it two 1-1 ties in a row. While the Cross-Country teams each took part in the Cobber 5K.

In other words, neither of Moorhead's higher ed's had banner weeks as October looms.

Timberwolves

The Wolves are one game into the pre-season but what happens on the court is almost a footnote to the ongoing drama with the guy that should be the player leader. When the games count or when that's resolved I'll talk more about it.

High School Sports

Shanley got a big win over St. Mary's on Friday night. Meanwhile, on the other side of town I was taking in a tight one between Fargo North & West Fargo. If you missed it earlier, check the recap & photos!
