Bison
As oxymoronic as it is to say, the Bison's week started fast and slow at the same time, by one group of competitors. The men's Golf team participated in the Zach Johnson invitational in West Des Moines. Lead by Dax Wallat, they combined for a second place finish, out of twelve teams, and Wallat shot a career low in the final round. Golf's a slow game but that's a fast start - get it 😊
The Soccer team followed that up on Thursday against Denver and pushed through regulation into overtime but fell 3 - 2 in the extra time. The loss is more disappointing when it's factored in that NDSU got up 2 - 0 in the first half, thanks to scores by Holly Enderle.
One day later the Volleyball team was out in Western Illinois and got their fourth win of the season, 3 - 1. They must have liked the feeling of victory because they made it two in a row with another 3 - 1 win on Sunday in Fort Wayne. The Soccer team added to victory Sunday with a 2 - 1 win of their own up in Grand Forks.
Which only leaves the Football team. A surprisingly high scoring game broke out on the North edge of Big12 country, but for the rest of my reaction to it, check out the Pick Six!
Dragons
MSUM had three game days Friday & Saturday. Friday started with a 17 stroke win by the Golf team over Crookston. Elsewhere across Minnesota, the Soccer players fell by a goal to St. Cloud and the Volleyball team was squashed by Winona State, 3 - 1.
Saturday didn't go much better for the Dragons. They had an exhibition swim meet where results weren't recorded, which may have been for the best, just for the sake of a little positivity. The Volleyball team retook to the court, only to get shut out at Upper Iowa. Meanwhile the Football team faced it's toughest test of the year as Mankato came to town only to double up the Dragons, 42 - 20.
The Soccer team had the chance to play their way into the new week with a win but gave up two more goals while scoring none.
Cobbers
One day into the week, the women's Golf team finished 9th at the MIAC Championship to end their Fall season.
At midweek the women's Soccer team played to a double overtime tie against Northwestern. On Saturday they went to double OT again, this time against St. Kate's, only to fall 3 - 2. Sunday gave them another chance at victory as they travelled to Wisconsin. The third try proved to be the right one as they scored three runs to only one allowed. Their offense came from four different sources, while Superior's was a one person, one shot success. That's a step in the right direction.
The Volleyball team took to the court for their lone contest of the week against Hamline. They also managed to play it out to a 3 - 1 win.
Each of the Cross Country teams took off in Jamestown and crossed the line in first place.
The men's Golf team is still competing in their portion of the MIAC championship in Jordan, MN. After one day they were in 7th place but that may improve before Monday is through.
The Football team had a chance to continue it's upward trajectory but were felled by Gustavus Adolphus, 27 - 14. Which leaves only the other Futbol team.
The men of the pitch beat some school named Viterbo 4 - 2 to end the week of work at play.
Timberwolves
No trade yet. And the cherry on top is the dysfunctional play on the court. What a disaster they are. Yet I still will watch and hope for the best.
High School Sports
Moorhead high Football got their first win of the season. Check out the recap & photos post for more on it.
Also took in one of the last Soccer matches of the season at Shanley, take a peek at the pics from it too!
