Vikings
Bison
After a quiet weekday set the Volleyball team started the week's play on Friday against North Dakota. They managed to avoid getting swept but fell 3 - 1 nonetheless.
The Saturday that followed was the most busy of the days. Both halves of the Cross Country team took part in the "Ron Pynn Classic" in UND and each one came home with top team honors. Kelby Anderson lead for the ladies while Tim Heikkila outpaced the rest of the gents. It falls in line with NDSU's history of runners and with each being Sophomores the success seems primed to continue for years ahead.
The leaves the Football team as the last of the competitors to get work in on Saturday. Check out the Pick Six for more about that one.
To conclude the week the Soccer team got a match in against South Dakota State. A late game goal by Mariah Haberle was the lone score by NDSU but proved to be enough to beat the bunnies.
The light week of action will quickly give way to much more full days but the Bison made good on the activities that were scheduled so it was a good week!
Dragons
A bit of a light week for MSUM started and had a large dose of Volleyball. First came a visit by Northern State. NSU shutout the Dragons at midweek. The same came to be when Wayne State rolled into town on Saturday but in-between the Dragons managed to prevent three straight shut-outs Augustana but even then fell 3 - 1.
Friday also included the first of two Soccer matches during the week. Wayne State fell 1 - 0 to Moorhead State with the lone goal coming from Jennifer Wickman. Augustana came into town and made sure that the Dragons didn't make it two wins a row, 2 - 0 Auggies.
Which left the yet to be posted results from a swim meet and the Football game at Wayne State. It took some extra time but the pitch and catch of Jakup Sinani to Jake Richter proved to be the difference on the gridiron. After falling behind 15 - 3 in the second quarter, MSU scored in all three of the common ways as they fought their way back and got the victory 28-22.
Cobbers
The Cobbers sports week was served up with a visit by Mayville State for a matchup with the Volleyball team. The first of two times on the court during the week went the way of the visitors 3 - 1. At midweek Bethel made it the second home contest for the Volleyball team but that one went even worse for the ladies.
The men's Soccer team also got a match in on Wednesday at St. Thomas and while only allowing one goal, managed to net zero of their shots. That was the lead up to a two match weekend. First came St. Olaf and thanks to a goal a piece by Aronah Mukhtar & Nate Weaver the Cobbers managed to split through Saturday. Then came a visit by St. John's and a one - one tie that stretched the match out into double overtime. In the 103 minute Austin Peterson broke the draw to give Concordia a winning week on the pitch.
The rest of Saturday wasn't quite as positive but was still good. Both Cross Country teams took running around at UND. Paced by Nolan Christenson, the men finished sixth as a team while the women were paced by a 16th place finish by Kara Andersen and a 4th place finish overall.
With the Football team on a bye week that left the women's Soccer team to play. Their lone match of the week was also against St. Olaf, also went into double overtime and finished in the 102 minute off the foot of Kalli Baarstad for the Cobbers.
So in other words, Concordia had a strong week!
