A Second Look @ Stick

Took a fairly wide ranging look at the "experts'" opinions of Easton Stick before the playoff run began. Well he sliced through the three opponents so far like a hot knife through butter so maybe that's pushed him up some boards. As I said before, it'll come down to how he performs at the East - West Shrine Game, the combine (if he's invited) & at the pro day. I would suggest checking out the previous rundown of draft evaluations of QB1. But that's enough forewording, onto the analysis of the new information.

With much of the FCS playoffs coming between the end of the FBS season and bowl season, new opinions & updated rankings are scarce but there are enough pieces to help focus in where our guy stands. The first resources of the sort come from CBS Sports. They released another top 32 players ranking which coincidentally lines up pretty well with how I see the draft going. One quarterback, late in the game. My take on it has shifted as the NFL season has unfolded and more teams have shown a need at the position but I still don't think it'll be a five qb's in the first round, draft. But I digress, the one quarterback ranked in the top 32 is not our guy, but in concert is a ranking of the top five quarterbacks in the class. It's a mixed bag of prospects and if the talent evaluators come to see Easton as coach Klieman does, then he stands a chance of rising that high in the interim season. As things stand now, he's on the outside looking in from CBS.

A new piece of information that I hadn't seen until today comes from the guys at College Sports Madness. It's from before the season and is one man's opinion but the writer, Pete Marasco was high on our guy coming into the year so I can only imagine that he would have him higher now. The spreadsheet is dated August 28 yet has him 13th overall out of 66 named quarterbacks. Admittedly, it's a flawed layout because it doesn't include information to explain what all the numbers mean but even if you just take it on it's face, then it's worth a look at where he was stacked up in comparison to power 5 quarterbacks.

Which brings us to the guys that I lead the way with last time. They claim to continually update their rankings, with a latest update date of the 20th but Stick is still slotted in at the 15th spot - no change from a month ago and the write up on him is no more detailed than before even though he & the Bison have been on national tv repeatedly over the last month. I'm not saying that the "updates" are bogus, but wouldn't argue with you if you came to that conclusion. So yeah, it's a little disappointing but in case you want to know how those guys stack up the 2019 quarterback class, here's the link!

So a lot less than last time but a little more information to chew on. And if you somehow found yourself bored over the holiday season, hopefully this stemmed that a wee bit! With the playoff run that he had, his name should be higher on mock drafts and player rankings than it is this very moment but once bowl season is over many of the national writers will update their projections and I'll do another iteration of this. So until then we'll just have to wait, with the small consolation that is the championship game. 😉

Merry Christmas!
