We're one week removed from the best three days on the pro football calendar.
Christian Darrisaw & Wyatt Davis are the most likely week 1 starters to come from the 11-man group.
But the main focus this time will go toward the second player they selected.
As one of the first to talk about Kellen Mond coming to Minnesota fan-cred points are being self-awarded.
But with 51 weeks until the clock is running again, speculation has already begun about who will be taken where and which players will be the top prospects in 2022.
Consider the foolishness of that, for a moment. At this time last year few people had heard of Trey Lance, Zach Wilson or Mack Jones but they made up a fifth of the top 15 picks. So yeah, speculation this far out is fraught with peril and will not be accurate.
Which is why no names are going to be used of possible options to Minnesota next April.
In lieu of that, here's the idea: double down.
There are plenty of positions that they could & should re-address next time. Depending how Darrisaw & Davis do, OL may again be high on the list and even if they excel adding quality depth would be prudent.
But that isn't the sort of doubling-down that I mean.
In this case, with Kirk Cousins all but certain to be the starting quarterback for the next two season, identify & select another one in the second or third round who can go head-to-head with Mond for the job going in 2023.
That way the team would give itself double the chance to overcome the long odds & find the successor on an enormously team-friendly deal. The loser would be a talented backup that could possibly be dealt in the future depending on how the chips.
Who knows how history would have changed had the team taken the approach when bring Tarvaris Jackson along. May never have had 09 but instead years of playoff appearance could have happened.
If the team learns from the mistakes of the past then they wouldn't be in vane!
The draft is a long way off but the talk about it has already begun so that's just an idea to keep in mind
