One of the individual performances that I've been in attendance for and will not soon forget came late last Winter at Concordia as Park Christian's girls Basketball team looked to advance deeper in the section tournament. Karley Motschenbacher put on a show. There's really no other way to describe it. But to be a 2000+ point scorer, it takes longevity and the ability to take over any contest. So that type of performance has been repeated, repeatedly, and today was no exception but again showcased her special talent.
The game started with a 6-0 run by Motschenbacher which Barnesville countered with a 9-0 run over more than 8 minutes of game time. The two teams traded the lead into the break, with Barnesville holding a 22 - 21 advantage when time expired.
After returning to the court it took some time for the offenses to reengage but Barnesville was slightly quicker, adding a couple of buckets to their lead and just when it seemed like they may be able to break the game open, the three's started falling for the Falcons as they stormed back and took the lead 44 - 43 with five minutes to play. Even more frequent than shots from deep were tipped passes and full-on steals by Park Christian which lead to many layups and a handful of old-school three's. Even as their pressure continued to give Barnesville problems, the Trojans managed to do just enough to tie the game at 49 and then score the final three points of the game.
Even as the higher level team, it was a great win for Barnesville as the Falcons star could well have gone quadruple-double with points, rebounds, assists and steals. Those kinds of efforts rarely end in losses for the team benefitting from them.
Final Score
Barnesville 52, Park Christian 49
Barnesville was lead by Sydney Strand with 23 points while Motschenbacher finished with 34 points. Eden Tofibam (PCS) was the only other player in double-figures.
