The first Championship Subdivision player was a walk-on TE from a town of less than 1,000 people in 2021. All kinds of credit goes to him for putting in the work to get onto the League's radar but it's just another feather in NDSU's cap. Why players, especially lineman, who think they can make it onto one of the 32 rosters decide to leave didn't make sense Friday morning and makes less sense Friday evening.
As for the Big Toothless Tomato, he's not joining a Tampa team with the championship aspirations of recent vintage so that will be a decided difference from his college experience. The rebuild or retool or however they're spinning the post-Brady era could allow him to get on the field sooner & thus cement his place at the pro level as a rookie.
To put it simply, it's a great development in the already great story that is Mauch's football career. Can hardly wait to see what's next for him, beyond deals with shampoo, tooth care & sunscreen companies!
