Where to begin...

Since the game was light on positives, that's first.

The preeminent positive is that the team gets to play another day. With as much talent loss as they've continued to have to deal with (and the looming other facet) another Saturday on the field shouldn't be taken for granted. Win or lose that was going to be the outcome but obvious facts needed to be stated.

As for the actual game today, Cam Miller was the only steady offense. To be able to say that with any level of confidence of a true freshman who still hasn't started a game is a condemnation of the whole offense. Christian Watson was the primary beneficiary through the air with 74 yards on two catches that would have been better if not for the outer-edge of his feet touching out on an pro-caliber reception.

The other positive was Garret Wegner continuing his All-American-caliber season. NDSU has had some very good specialists during the dynasty but Wegner may be the one that finally gets more than a cursory opportunity at the highest level. If he keeps going like he has been then he will at least get a shot.

The one-dimensionality of the offense could have been limited even further had SDSU not been coming off of a one-month hiatus. They were plenty sharp anyway and predictably seemed fresh-to-go in holding non-Miller runners to 62 total yards. As the saying goes, the struggle is real.

Even the vaunted Code was broken in the second half today. Mark Gronowski accounted for 275 total yards while going 10/14 through the air. His 126 yards on the ground were the largest share of the 305 that were run-up by the Bunnies. James Kaczor finished with double-digit tackles and they had a solid day getting after Gronowski but those positives are hollow when considered against all that SDSU was able to do against them.

With the Marker, winning streaks & playoff position on the line there is plenty more on the dour side that can parsed resulting from the loss. If you want to have those discussions, by all means & you'll be engaged but there's been enough sidetracking already. As for the 60 minutes of competition, this just about covers the good & bad today.
