Following a first-half that was encapsulated by a lane-violation to wipe out a made free throw for Detroit Lakes, Moorhead & specifically Samantha Zimmerman, took control.
Not to wholly skip over the first 18 minutes, because it was even-played with a response each time the other team managed to make a run. Moorhead's widest margin was seven points and they went into the locker rooms separated by six, 34-28.
I can't say all the factors that contributed to the Lakers start after the break, but it took them six minutes to score a point while the Spuds had added nine to their lead over that time.
The one cylinder that fired well enough to keep DL in the low double-digits after the start was Sarah Tangen. If not for her shot-making, it would have been a much more lop-sided affair. Each time Tangen made a play though, Zimmerman managed to have an answer by putting the ball through the cylinder to keep her team running. The engine metaphor is bit of a stretch but the two young women kept their teams going in similar fashion.
Moorhead 64, Detroit Lakes 50
Samanthana Zimmerman finished with a game-high 29, 17 in the first half. Bryn Jacobson & Grace Perry tied for second-most points with nine each while four other Spuds chipped in points.
Sarah Tangen finished with 22 points, 14 in the second half. Kylee Price was second with seven while five others added at least a pair of points.
