For the second time today Minnesota added an explosive offensive athlete who may take the role as the returner.
The trend of this draft has been former QB/WR tandems being reunited. In this case Smith-Marsette will be returning to the practice field with his college quarterback.
That's just a fun nugget.
The main takeaway from this pick is that the team is not at all satisfied with what they got from the returners last year and by extension are trying to improve the punt/kick coverage units.
With some rare athletic traits IS-M will be in a position to learn from the route-running tacticians atop the receiver depth chart. Which is to say that he also qualifies as a developmental player.
I can't deny that the uniform colors may factor in but some of his highlights remind me of Antonio Brown. I don't want to put future HOF on any of these guys but the flash is similar. Whether he's like AB off the field isn't something I can talk about one way or the other...hopefully not.
