Fargo/Moorhead's "little engine" is coming back with some excitement & internal expectation after a season that ended with a playoff victory.
Thank you for corresponding coach Burgstahler!
Are there any highlights from last Fall that stand out for you in reflection?
Last season was crazy. Our 2-4 record does not represent how good we truly were. One game the score was 0-4 going into the 4th quarter. Another game came down to them stopping us 4th and inches on the goal line with less than a minute left to win by 1. Our Defense was fantastic last year, which came out of nowhere. We call ourselves Covid Champs since we never had a close contact issue and won our final game up in Blackduck 7-6 as the snow was flying. We celebrated in the Bemidji Wal-Mart parking lot with some Pizza Hut. So, in the end, I am excited to see how the guys play in a normal season.
Who are some of the players that you anticipate will step into the roles vacated by 2020 graduates?
We only graduated 2 seniors that started so we return most of our team. I anticipate Caden Larson and Austin Carlson to really step up as WR's and hopefully we get our air attack going. Max Albrecht will have his 2nd season as QB and RB this fall and I am excited to see his experience payoff from last year.
Which position groups do you think will be your strength?
We have a very strong line in the middle. Our Center, Caleb Boyer, will be starting for his 3rd season and he has only gotten stronger. Riley Erkenbrack will be playing next to him and he is coming off a great year on all sides of the ball and is the reigning All District Special Teams Player of the Year. I also for see Phil Lien showing up big time as a leader on our Defense again leading as our Middle Linebacker.
Is there anything else you would like people to know about your team going into the season?
My captains are Riley Erkenbrack, Phil Lien, Max Albrecht, and Caden Larson. All 4 have stepped up big time as leaders and I expect them to make a major impact this fall. Side note: Riley and Max are 2nd time Captains.
We are going to have fun each and everyday we are together and we hope to raise some eyebrows this fall. Our size will stand out for the first time and we have the most players ever in PCS history out to play. It was only 6 seasons ago I had 13 total players, today I have 26!
