Up & Down

Grand Forks Central made the morning drive down I-29 for their last games of 2020 and the varsity contest nearly became a classic.

South started the game with a 7-0 run over the first two minutes of the game but the Knights fought back to tie at 12 after a four-point-play was completed. They retied it seconds later at 14 before South reignited, outscoring Central 24-12 into the half. It took a late flurry for Grand Forks to even get that close before the horn sounded.

The Bruins picked up where they had left-off, increasing their lead to 49-30 four minutes into the half. Fast-forward another four minutes & Central had cut it to a six point game with a 15-2 run.

The senior-laden Bruins didn't panic and instead managed to answer instead of letting the Knights get any closer. When they needed a big basket, Kam Arechigo often supplied as their leading scorer. Even as the game continued to be just a two shot difference there was no break in the Bears. With less than a minute remaining, Sibomana Enock made plays on both ends. First he drilled a three to extend the lead to 9 and then he had a block to seal it.

Arechigo finished with 26, including five made threes while the next highest for South was Khamani Steckler with 11. The other 33 points came from six different sources.

Central's Mason Love had a game high 32, including seven from behind the arc. Their second-highest was 12 by Mason Gravseth.
