Final Thursday before the big day so it's time for another mock draft!
Here is last week's edition.
Now onto the new one
For the second week in a row Jermaine Johnson & Derek Stingley Jr. were both available when pick 12 came up. In addition to those two, Garrett Wilson was the only receiver simmed out in the first 11, which would be good news for those who want the team to go that route. With no track record as the boss it's anyone's guess what KA-M would do but this specific unfold would present a great trade-down opportunity. In lieu of that the high-upside & high need was tabbed for reinforcement.
CB Derek Stingley Jr. (LSU)
In nearly complete contrast to the first round, pick 46 did not mesh well with the player rankings. Obviously the team's official board could be quite different from the projection, the situation once again lead to thoughts of a trade back so as to not reach for a guy. There was one player who seemed like a good potential fit while not being way down the ranking.
DE/Edge Cameron Thomas (San Diego St.)
The see-saw swung back the other direction at 77 with several intriguing options amongst the top remaining players. Tight-end hasn't been the most frequently mentioned position this offseason but adding one to go along with the Irv Smith Jr. would make sense, in this case Coastal Carolina's Isaiah Likely. The need for more young talent to the rebuilt defense took precedent again however. There remained an opportunity to add a potential three-phase player and that does not happen every year. Who knows, maybe KO could work him in with some TE snaps.
LB/Athlete Troy Andersen (Montana St.)
Fast forward to 156 and the chance to add a long-term contributor for offense & special teams presented itself.
WR Romeo Doubs (Nevada)
Then came the time to add some for the offensive line room. Would it be nice to go that route sooner? Absolutely. But with at as many holes as there are on the roster it can't all be fixed with high picks. Hitting on a late-route OL would be one of the best ways for the new regime to ingratiate themselves to the fanbase!
Guard Cade Mays (Tennessee)
Consideration of adding a tight-end came back around at 191 as another former member of the Wolf Pack remained.
Cole Turner (Nevada)
What better way to break the tie than by re-addressing the need at cornerback? Finding someone with the innate abilities which could make a future starter at this point in the draft is the dream and there was just such a player.
Isaac Taylor-Stuart (USC)
Idaho St. WR Tanner Conner was considered for the final selection but adding someone to Harrison Smith's understudy group took precedent. With size that could lead to some time at linebacker as an added bonus the choice was straight-forward.
Safety Smoke Monday (Auburn)
