The 2021/2022 season will include a new look Spud squad seeking to continue the recent trend of successes across their sports landscape

Here's what coach Ellingson had to say about the team

As you reflected upon it, is there a highlight that stands out from last season?

The highlight from last season was playing our best basketball in March and our program reaching our first Section Final since 2012.

Did you take your team to any camps this past Summer?

How did your team benefit from the work?

We did go to a few camps/tournaments this Summer. It is always beneficial to get to see the student-athletes compete and play with each other. Each season brings a new group at the high school level and it is fun to see how all of the different puzzle pieces may fit together.

You lost a very accomplished group of seniors but last season included the rise of Adam Jenkins. How have you seen him improve over time? Which aspects of the game will you work with him to add as he takes a bigger role for your team?

Adam is a student-athlete that is so invested in becoming the best basketball player he can be. He is always working on his game and his body to become the best version of himself. As he enters his Junior season we look for him to be a consistent force on the defensive end where he is communicating and rebounding at a high rate. On the offensive end of the floor, we look for him to continue letting the game come to him and finishing around the rim at a high rate.

Who else do you anticipate shouldering the load this season?

Senior guard Mekhi Elmore is our leading returning scorer and was also named our defensive player of the year last year. We look for him to be a steady point guard for our group who sets the tone for our team every time we take the floor.

Is there a certain aspect of the game that you think will be the strength of your team?

We think that our team has the ability to be a good rebounding team on both ends of the floor. A group that can become pretty solid defensively by the end of the season. Lastly, a group that really enjoys playing with each other on the offensive end of the floor where we have fairly balanced scoring. To boil it all down, what would make the upcoming season a successful one? This upcoming season will be a successful one if we are playing our best basketball when it matters the most in March. We want to be a group that is fun to come and watch with how we play the game by being a tough defensive team and a group that really shares the ball on offense.

Thanks again coach!
