North Girls

We're embarking on another Winter where the best in the East will have a chance to hoist the trophy at the end of the season. The North girls will try to add to a recent renaissance of talent & success by being in the mix when the months have played out. If they're able to then the conference will be all the more intriguing!

Here's what coach Kaluza had to say about the team

Are there highlights you identified while reflecting upon last season?

Last season was challenging for many reasons, but upon reflection we can take away some positives and “wins” for our program. We were able to play many underclassmen that will now be asked to contribute in larger roles this season. We did lose some valuable seniors but have several returning starters including Grace Miller (Sr.), Emily Skalicky (Sr.), Arden Faulkner (Jr.) and Reagan Carlson (Jr.). We also have a large incoming freshman class that will add to the depth of our program as well. Additionally, we are also proud of the fact that we continue to have many multi-sport athletes in our program.

Did you take your team to any camps this past Summer?

How did your team benefit from that?

Our program had a very successful summer in 2021. We were able to attend team camps at Valley City State University, UND, and Concordia. We were able to find success at each camp, capped off by winning the varsity division of the Concordia team camp. These team camps gave us a great chance to compete against some different teams from around the state, but also gave our girls a chance to grow as a team and a program. We missed these team experiences in the summer of 2020 due to COVID and it was important for our girls to be able to bond and build their relationships this past summer through team camps, summer league, and our skill development sessions.

Is there a certain aspect of the game that you think will be the strength of your team?

It feels like we will have more depth this year as we will be able to play a roster that could be as deep as 10 players on a given night. We were able to play a pretty young roster last year and will have many returners with some varsity experience. Our girls have put a lot of hours into the gym to become better fundamental players, with a strong emphasis on shooting the ball. Our confidence has increased with the additional work that we have put into the gym and the weight room.

To boil it all down, what would make the upcoming season a successful one?

This sounds a little cliché, but we are looking to maximize the best efforts of all involved in our program, from players and coaches to parents and administration. We are looking for steady improvement in all areas of the game. Of course there will be setbacks and challenges, but our goal is to embrace the hardships and continue to put forth our best efforts as a collective group.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about your program or players?

The Fargo North community has seen a bit of a rejuvenation in our athletic programs over the last year. The boys’ basketball program made it to the state tournament last year and returns many key players, our football team won an East Region title and played in the state semifinals, and our volleyball team made a deep run into the EDC tourney before falling in the play-in game to go to state. Our girls’ basketball program is looking to add to the next chapter of Fargo North athletics this season. We have plenty of work to do as the EDC is still a very strong conference for girls’ hoops, but we are up for the challenge and look forward to representing the Fargo North community this season.

Thanks again coach!
