With the game returning in a few hours, here is the last of this year's coach Q & A's.
Is there a memory or two that really stands out as the highlight from last season?
"How the younger kids adjusted to the adversity of not having a set "home" for our games. It was kind of fun playing at all of the different fields, but as they say, there's no place like home. Having played only 1 game there, while only being able to practice 3 times on our field, it was hard for them."
Was there anything that happened that was especially surprising?
"How the kids stuck together through a long season. You lose some games like we did, and it can be a recipe for dissension and players doing their own thing, but we had a unit that stayed together, and has actually increased their bond with one another."
How do you hope to build on what you accomplished last Fall?
"We were 0-9, so hopefully we got all of the lessons that we needed from last year."
As for the current situation, how have social distancing and the other limitations affected your players?
"It's allowed us as coaches to utilize zoom meetings for communication with the players, and it has actually allowed the team to bond a little bit more than usual, with setting up game nights."
What effects do you think the changes will have on field, especially early in the season?
"The hope is that we all will be a closer team, and learn to play for one another, rather than ourselves."
What do you think your roster's strengths will be?
"Game time experience. While we won't be high on upperclassmen, those younger players did log a lot of field time last year."
Which players do you anticipate stepping into expanded roles?
"I'm not sure about an expanded role, but we're definitely expecting some of our linemen to take a step forward this year, and gel. Without them stepping up their level of play, it will make it tougher for all involved."
What else, if anything, would you like people to know about your team going into the season?
"Hopefully you'll see a more mature team that goes out there and plays hard, no matter what the score. I think you'll see us compete more this year and hopefully pull out a few wins along the way."
