It's Friday morning and the question is who is Lewis Cine?
Let's try to find the answer!
The basics: He is a junior safety from Cedar Hill, TX by way of Georgia. His combine measurements were 6'2" 199 lbs with 32.25 inch arms & 9.375 inch hands. He ran a 4.37 40 yard dash while hitting 36.5 on the vertical jump & 133 inches on the broad jump.
On a LOADED Georgia defense he went under the radar but with some of the plays he made that could be for the Purple's benefit! Check the video for yourself
Over his three years he played in 39 games, starting 27 including all of the last 25. He finished his college career with 2 interceptions & no sacks but his tackling numbers increased every season, with 43 of 73 being solo this past year. With nine passes defensed during the 21/22 campaign compared to five total over his freshman & sophomore seasons he may be ready for whatever gambits Ed Donatell has in mind to employ for he & Harrison Smith.
Safety was a position that many thought the Purple would address in round one but how they did & who they added is another story. To say the trade or the pick are a success or a failure yet would be premature. We need to see what KA-M & co. do tonight with the other picks they added. As for Cine, his final season stats are comparable to that of Smith's and his play style resembles the future Ring of Honor member. Does not mean that he'll have the same ball-hawking success on the pro level but that is enough to generate optimism today. One nugget to go out after the selection was that Cine didn't allow a touchdown as the primary defender on any of his 500 snaps. That would help turn the defense around very quickly!
