10 minutes in and Shanley had a two point lead, 15-13. That was after a 6-0 burst by North but still created the feeling that we might have been in for a "rock fight."
The Spartans were first in shrugging off the slow start as the 6-0 extended to 14-5 and the one-point lead, 21-20. They held onto the advantage for the remainder of the half, getting themselves up by eight and finishing the half up 6.
The Deacons halftime adjustments helped them start with a 9-4 run that they grew to 17-7. They continued the hot restart and pushed their lead to 61-52 but couldn't get over the 10-point threshold. North answered with four quick points only to see a Connor Kraft 3 take back the progress. Only seconds later Jalen May countered with his own make from beyond the arc. Emmet Kenney followed that with a semi-circus layup only to have May drain another triple.
It all added up to a one-point game with under a minute left. I didn't title it resilience for no reason 😏. The Spartans continued to battle and very nearly got one of the most improbable shots of the season to fall. It would have completed the comeback but was waived off by the officials after lengthy discussion. The final seconds ticked away and Shanley held on for the victory.
Shanley 76, North 72
Connor Kraft's 23 paced the way for Shanley. He was joined in double-figures by Tyler Kraft (17), Matthew Hulstein (13) & Braden DeKeyser (12).
The Spartans also had a 23-point scorer, Ryan Manly. Not far behind, Jalen May finished with 20 while Isaac Cody added 13.
