The Saturday matinee at South high had some of everything.
Seven minutes into the game and the Bruins had played their way to a 15-6 lead. Propelled by a 14 point half by Khamani Steckler they expanded the margin into the break, 37-26.
The rest and the success helped increase their defensive intensity. Over the first 11 minutes of the second half they went on a 17-10 run to put themselves up by 18.
Undeterred, Shanley score 10 in a row in a minute of game time. It was the spark they needed and they kept going with it, eventually cutting the lead to only three after an emphatic dunk.
On the very next possession Kameron Arechigo got a whistle, stepped to the line & sank both of the freebies to make it a two-score game with six seconds remaining.
So yeah, it had good defense, a great comeback and highlight plays. Maybe the only thing it didn't have was a buzzer beater, but it's only December so we have to wait for some of the best stuff!
South 66, Shanley 61
In addition to Steckler's 18, Arechigo finished with 24 - 21 of which came in the second half as he lived up to his jersey number with five made 3s.
For Shanley, Braden DeKeyser lead the way with 18. He was joined in double-figures by Emmet Kenney (12) & Conner Kraft (11).
