As the calendar ticks to single-digits between now and the beginning of the season, here is what coach Hendrickson had to say about his team.
What were some highlights last season for your team? "Our record wasn’t the best, but played extremely hard and were in most games. One highlight would be going to Red River during regular season and beating them. As well as the play-in game vs Grand Forks Central to get us into the EDC tournament."
How do you plan on building upon what you taught your returning players last season? "We play up-tempo as much as possible, so that needs to be stressed to all players new and old. We should have pretty good leadership from our seniors." What effect do you think the lack of summer camp & extra workouts will have on your players? "It is going to hurt, but all teams had to go through it. We (Fargo South) athletes spent time working-out outside on our football field – so with that in mind we tried to keep up our athletic ability. During July we were allowed some time in the gym with many different safety issues in place." Who are some of the players who will need to step up to replace the ones that moved on? "We lost Kevin Hardy our all-conference player, he will be hard to replace, but our group of seniors should be able to step up and do it through a group mentality." Is there a certain aspect of the game that you think will be the strength of your team? "I really like how our group of seniors has created a bond with each other and the underclassmen. As far as a strength I feel that our athletes trust each other so we shouldn’t have the growing pains of playing selfishly." Who do you think the leaders for your team will be this season? How have they shown leadership qualities to you in the past? "Vocally our leader will be Sibomana Enock. As far as getting players to do the right things it will be Tre Hendrickson. Enock has had that role both in football and basketball over the last couple of years. Tre (being a coaches kid) has observed what others have done in the past and wants to grow in that capacity."
