Vikings
A week ago was an expected performance and win. Today's contest against Philadelphia was less expectable but still managed to be great! For the full rundown on the game, check out the S or N.
Bison
A recurring theme this week was the early white outside but NDSU was only minimally impacted by it. As their homecoming weekend got underway, the Soccer team traveled to Omaha but lost 1-0.
On Friday, the Volleyball team hosted South Dakota and it went the full five but the Bison finished on the losing end of that one as well.
Saturday had Northern Iowa in town in what ended up being another route by the Football team. For the game analysis, you know what to do! 🙂
It concluded with the Soccer team playing to a draw against Oral Roberts, with the lone home goal being scored by Nicky De Pape. The Volleyball team also got to work, with Denver coming to the Bunker but the result was the same 3-1, visitors.
Dragons
With the weather's interference, the college level action was as affected as the high school's were but the Volleyball team made it to St. Cloud State on Friday, only to get shutout 3-0.
On Saturday the Cross-Country teams competed in Illinois but each finished outside the top 10. The Football team traveled to Concordia-St. Paul and had a chance to come back from 14 down in the fourth quarter but couldn't get the key stop required to tie the game. It's another learning experience for them but a disappointing outcome in a key game on their schedule. The Volleyball team played again on Saturday against UMD but with the same result.
The Soccer team hosted the Bulldogs this afternoon and played them to a tie, with the lone goal for Moorhead coming from Maren Soupir in the final minutes of the match.
Cobbers
Concordia's week started with the men's Golf team finishing in the five-hole at the MIAC Championship.
The next day the Volleyball team fell 3-1 against Morris. After a couple off days, they returned to the court only to go down 3-0 against St. Olaf. Friday also included a 2-0 win by the men's Soccer team over Macalester, with goals by Nate Weaver & Sam Gess.
Saturday was highlighted a loss in the final minute of play by the Football team against Gustavus Adolphus on homecoming. It also included losses by 2-1 against Macalester by the women's Soccer team and 3-2 against St. Mary's.
To close out the week, the men's Futbol continued their undefeated October with a 2-2 tie against, with both Cobber goals coming in the second half off the feet of Weaver & Gess. It did end a four-game winning streak that had extended over from September.
Timberwolves
The Wolves played their lone preseason game at home tonight and it went much like the first two had. Fast-paced, somewhat chaotic as a result but with a lot of three-point shots as well. The ball-handling is the thing that remains the most prominent question mark in my mind. If Jeff Teague goes down, the experience at the point behind him leaves a lot to be desired. It leads me to believe that the organization may still be pinning a lot of hope to getting De'Angelo Russell next Summer. I have thoughts on that but none are especially relevant right now so I'll save them for another day. The point is, Basketball's start is imminent and with the whole China situation, I'm sure the league can't get it started soon enough.
Force
In their only game of the week, the home opener, the Force fell behind by three goals in the first period. That was just their way of creating some drama before making the comeback and winning 4-3. It's not a recipe for regular success but made for a memorable start to the season.
High School Sports
Snow got in the way of quite a bit of the remaining Fall schedule, most notably a forced delay of the North Dakota state Soccer tournament. It's now set to go off this week out in Bismarck.
As for the Football games in the area, many of them were moved up to Thursday, which still wasn't quite able to avoid the Winter weather but did mean that the worst of it was avoided. In the game of the week, West Fargo played Davies on the Deacon turf. The Eagles came out ahead and gave themselves the chance to control their own destiny to the EDC championship. None of the top five teams are yet eliminated from contention yet though. For more on victory, check out the recap!
