The Week That Was

Here are the thoughts about the sixth victory

The week started with a special Pro Update. A few more athletes were recognized prior to the ⚽️ tournament beginning in Denver, Paige Goaley, Abby Wilkinson & Elana Webber were among the All-League honorees.

Before that kicked-off men's ⛳️ took the title in North Carolina. The women closed out the Fall portion of their schedule in Hawaii, taking tenth.

Thursday Kansas City pushed NDSU 🏐 to the limit but couldn't come all the way back from a 2 - 0 deficit. They added another W Saturday over ORU in three. They've now moved back into second place in the standings, a single conference loss behind South Dakota.

Up on the mountain the ladies played to extra time but were bested by ORU.

In Grand Forks the women's 🏃 team had the best performance and will go again November 11th in Columbia, Missouri. The guys will have the same opportunity following their second place finish.

Which just leaves the win over Illinois St..

It was the wrong sort of sweep for Moorhead State this week, started & finished by 🏐, against Northern St. & Duluth, with St. Cloud in-between. Prior to that ⚽️ dropped a 3 - 0 in Aberdeen while 🏈 was leveled there as well.

Women's ⚽️ started the week with a 2 - 0 loss to Bethel. The guys hit the pitch a day later but had even more trouble with the Royals. The ladies were back at it Saturday against Hamline and earned a 3 - 0 victory.

Friday 🏐 took down Hammy in five with their best performance of the season and followed it up with a 3 - 1 win over St. Benedict. A fine way to go-out, even as they missed the conference tournament.

The finales continued in St. Paul as 🏃 took fifth (men) & seventh (women).

On the other end of the calendar, 🏒 is just beginning with both the men & women getting on the ice Saturday. The guys closed out the week against Marian, hanging a touchdown on them.

🏈 was also in the metro to face Augsburg, which proved to be an offensive display by both teams.

It came in a losing effort to start the San Antonio week but Anthony Edwards became the eighth-youngest player to eclipse 3,000 points. Luka Dončić was the only other played to hit the number in less than 150 games. When they rematched Wednesday the Howl came out like gang-busters, setting a franchise record with 10 made 3s in the first quarter while Edwards notched another personal milestone late in the third with his 400th made three pointer.

The team then proceeded to send Wendell Moore to Iowa so that he can gain more experience instead of just languishing on the bench. Friday night brought Minnesota's former team, taking them down with less ease than it should have but the result counted the same. They then dropped Sunday evening to a San Antonio team that few teams across the Association, if any, could justify beating beaten by - let alone one that claims to want to make the postseason & advance.

It's too early to talk more trades but the latest result & Tim Connelly's penchant are enough to legitimize the thought crossing.

Fargo's first time on the ice proved to be a miserable showing as Sioux City got them 4 - 0. A day later they had cracked the code, hanging seven on the Muskateers while giving up only two scores. They will go again Thursday/Friday at home against Tri-City.

Reminder that scores and recruiting news are updated regularly so check back often!

The latter element included several significant developments since last Sunday.

Now for this week's highlights from between the lines

Sheyenne, South & West Fargo all had shutouts Tuesday on the 🏐 court. All three followed up with minimums Thursday, joined by Horace over Devils Lake. On the Minnesota side Hawley got the third round of the section tournament with shutout wins against Fergus Falls & Perham. D/G/F got through one round but were stymied by Barnesville in the second. The Trojans will get the Nuggets Thursday in Pelican Rapids. Ada/Borup also kept it's season alive, beating Red Lake & Fertile/Beltrami and will now face Badger/Greenbush/MR Tuesday. Ulen got one win, over Lake Park/Audubon, but then fell to Hillcrest Academy, as did Fertile in getting by Mahnomen before meeting their end.

On the 🏈 field Century pulled an upset, knocking #1 Sheyenne from their perch while Davies & Shanley cruised to the second round. A level below both North & South took care of business to set up a rematch of their great regular season clash. It will be the first time in more than two decades that the long-time rivals will meet in the postseason. Central Cass also had an ace up it's sleeve in another classic against Kindred while Hillsboro kept it's season going. It was a good run but the last of the nearby 9-man schools fell to Cavalier Saturday.

Saturday also included section semi-final action with Moorhead surviving a comeback by Alexandria and will get their own rematch against Sartell. D/G/F will also once again be in the State-berth game, against East Grand Forks Thursday. That will follow Fertile/Beltrami who secured their spot at the Dome with a 34-point win over Ulen/Hitterdal. Barnesville will be there Friday after knocking Frazee off 57 - 0. Ada/Borup made it to the 8A semis with a 22-point win over Fosston but were downed by Red Lake.

The week also included state tournament & state qualifying events to the East. On the 🎾 court Katryna Hansen represented Moorhead in the AA tournament. She faced Elk River first, losing 2 - 0 and had no more success against a representative from Mahtomedi. In Bemidji 🏃 competed, with the ladies taking third as a team & having Avery Marquardt & Ava Dunnigan qualify for the State Meet. The boys finished one behind that number, with Jack Kupitz & Austin Liebl qualifying for the big race. Hawley's girls also qualified to run at the final event with a second place performance. The Nuggets also got one representative from the boys contingent.

In other news, Matt Veit was named head softball coach for Davies.

That's the week in a nut-shell!
