Vikings
Third win of the season, that means the weekly treatment!
Bison
It was a condensed week for the Bison that didn't start in earnest until Friday. The men's Golf team got to kick it off on Tuesday in West Des Moines and finished in fourth place out of 12.
From there they traveled to Highlands Ranch, Colorado and upped their game to second out of nine contesting teams. Over the three days of play they also set three school records. The Volleyball team hosted Fort Wayne and swept them out of the BBF in straight sets.
On Saturday the Football team opened conference play in dominant fashion but for more about that one, you'll have to check out the SlobberNaw.
On Sunday it was Western Illinois that came to the fieldhouse and it ended with the same 3-0 score in favor of the Bison. The Soccer team also played on transition day, to a 2-1 win thanks to goals by Lavin Douglass and Mariah Haberle.
Dragons
A similarly late start and light slate didn't stop the Dragons from having a decent week. It started with a 1-1 tie against Upper Iowa by the Soccer team and a 3-1 win over Bemidji State on the Volleyball court.
Saturday included a narrow 28-26 defeat against Winona St and a second 3-1 win by the Volleyball team, this time over Crookston.
The Soccer team rounded out the week with a 2-0 loss to the Warriors.
Cobbers
Concordia's week started on the Golf course. The men managed to finish in third while the women were eighth-best in the MIAC championship.
Both the women's Soccer & Volleyball teams got to work on Wednesday but to no avail. It was five goals to one against St. Catherine's and 3-1 against Hamline on the court with neither score going the corns way.
On Friday, both halves of the Cross-Country team headed to Jamestown with the men taking second and the women ending atop the lot.
Saturday included a sweep of Macalester by the Volleyball team, a 4-2 win over Hamline by the men's Soccer team, with a hat trick by Sam Gess and another by Telvin Vah, and a 51-6 drubbing at the hands of St. Thomas.
Both of the Soccer teams played again on Sunday. Gess scored another three goals for the guys while Klara Beinhorn & Karsen Granning handled the offense for the women. Both totals proved to be enough for the squads.
Timberwolves
The Wolves got training camp underway and their new messaging has been pushed with full force. If it ends up being more than talk, great but until proven otherwise it's best to wary of their chances to win more than they'll lose. Main concern has been and will continue to be related to the primary ball handling. If that can get sorted out in a good way, combined with their defensive potential, then they should be able to be competitive for most of the 82 even if the wins don't always follow.
Twins
I know I said that I was done talking about this squad on here for this season but unfortunately, the dead horse needs to get beaten just a little more. The 162 games was a great run. One of the best that this or any franchise will ever have but when the rubber met the road at the trade deadline they didn't act and the drubbing by New York is the direct result of that failure. If you want to hold onto the idea that this is just the start of another decade of playoff appearances, you may be right. But if all of them end with the team getting eliminated in the first round then they'll be as worthless as the 2000's set of appearances turned out to be.
Force
The one game on the ice this week was in Des Moines, finishing as a 6-1 loss. It's a slow start but with the next month being played exclusively at the arena, it may get better in a hurry. So if you're ready for Hockey to come, you'll have plenty of chances already.
High School Sports
The regular season for boys Soccer ended in North Dakota this week with three of the four teams from the EDC coming out of West or original Fargo. Sheyenne finished in the one spot with South, Davies & Grand Forks Central rounding out the East contingent. The state tournament starts on Thursday in Mandan and concludes on Saturday.
On Friday Detroit Lakes visited D-G-F in a contest that ended up exemplifying smash mouth Football. Check out the recap for the rest!
