The Week That Was

In addition to the thoughts about win #8 Jefferson set a League record for most 100 yard games and a new career high with 193 yards. Cook got into the highlight act with his 81-year score, the longest of his career & of the season so far. The one slinging the ball also had a merit as this was his 39th-straight game with a passing touchdown, the sixth-best streak all time.

NDSU's week began with Cody Mauch & Hunter Luepke getting the expected opportunity to be in Mobile, AL for the Senior Bowl. This will be the third year in a row that the school has representation at the event.

TaMerik Williams was also recognized for his effectiveness against Western Illinois (120 & 2) with the Conference Offensive Player of the Week!

🤼 also broke some news as they broke into the rankings for the first time since 2019 as #19 in the country!

The week of competition began Monday with men's 🏀 in Fayetteville, Arkansas & the women in Missoula. Going against the first of two top-10 teams was a tall task as Dave Richman works with the reloaded roster and it didn't get any better at the Reigning Champs Thursday. They finished the week with their home opener Sunday against Pacific but their effort was doomed by turnovers.

Despite the snow 🏐 was able to get win #12 in conference play and just one shy of 20 for the season against Omaha. They were back on the court Saturday versus Denver but this time finished on the wrong end of a 3 - 2 score.

It was a grind in Illinois but in champion fashion 🏈 found a way to another victory.

Sunday brought a historic professional development as Christian Watson got his first touchdown and then proceeded to add two more, the first performance of that sort since the late 70s!

🏊 opened the weekend against Southwest, losing 66 - 158 but then found their stroke Saturday against Concordia-SP & Jamestown.

Concordia's week began with Telvin Vah making a bit more history following his final season, becoming the ninth player to make all-conference for consecutive seasons. Sophia Robinson was also recognized for her work on the pitch this season.

The week continued with starting their seasons against Morris, with the women coming out on top while the men dropped their debut by five. The guys followed that with a visit by Crown College but despite a hot shooting night by Matthew Johnson weren't able to get the W.

Men's 🏒 had it's first conference action Thursday against St. John's but couldn't keep pace with a prolific offense, losing 7 - 3. The women started conference play with a better defensive showing but couldn't hold the net, giving up three of the final four scores to lose 3 - 2.

The final Saturday on the field proved to be a coin-flip but this time it was Carleton finishing with the advantage on the scoreboard.

The week ended with one more standout performance as Leo Smith earned All-Region in leading Concordia 🏃 to a 14th-place finish. The women had the 18-best showing in Northfield.

A stone rolling uphill might go faster than the gelling of this year's team but they were able to survive an onslaught by Darius Garland Sunday to get their second win in the last eight games. Garland's 51 made up for at least some of the missing production as the Howl faced another short-handed team. Maybe they would have won either way but now they get a couple days to practice & be out of the spotlight before a trip to Orlando. This could be the beginning of the corner being turned - we shall see.

Before the three puck-drops of the week goalie Matej Marinov was named Tender of the Week. He came into the weekend as the second-ranked GT in goals against & save percentage. They couldn't use that as jump-start into the weekend as Des Moines edged them 4 - 3 in a shootout Friday but followed that with a 6 - 3 win Saturday in Omaha. They finished the road trip with a 5 - 3 W.
