The Purple don't play until tomorrow but there isn't a week that goes by this time of year where they aren't making news. The most notable development was the dispatching of Pat Elflein. On one hand, I'm glad I never bothered to learn the exact spelling of his last name, because he never earned that, but then came the other shoe as the virus hit the OL earlier today and they could have used his warm body tomorrow.
If it's not one thing, it's another.
Both NDSU & MSU had a week to remember as signing day came for a litany of their sports. Players from near & far submitted their paperwork as future competitors for the schools. You can see the full compilation here, but there was even more that happened in the last few days!
They each got more clarity about when their 🏀 teams will be able to get on the courts. The latest round of dates for the SHAC's teams include some high-profile names while Moorhead State also got news about it's 🤼 schedule. The Dragons will have to wait til mid-December for the finest details of the schedules but good news is greatly appreciated!
Speculation continues to run rampant with the draft less than 72 hours from starting, but they've maintained a fortress mentality so we're all going to have to keep waiting for anything even gelatinous, much less concrete.
As a nod to the successful decision it was by Minnesota to acquire Maeda, he was second in this year's AL Cy Young Award voting. Players with the kind of ability that Graterol has don't come along every day and only time will tell whether MN got it right, but after one year the meter is in their favor.
Fargo finally got on the ice for a home and home against Sioux Falls Friday/Saturday.
A goal less than a minute into game one by Austin Wong put Fargo ahead only to have Sioux Falls net the next two goals. With six minutes remaining in the period, Ryan Richardson evened it at two then Mason Salquist got a third one past the goalie to put Fargo back on top.
Early in the second Sioux Falls tied it at three but then Jacob Braccini got one to make it a 4-3 lead for Fargo. Then, with nine minutes remaining in the third, Jeremy Davidson concluded the scoring 5 - 3, Fargo.
In game two Brennan Boynton was put in the net and he was 18/18 in saves. The team in front of him capitalized on the defense with second period goals by Tyler Rollwagen, Ryan Richardson, Austin Wong and another by Rollwagen. Matthew Crasa scored his first of the year in the third period as the cherry on top.
Fargo will be on the road next weekend and then return for four in a row at the arena.
The dark cloud over a GREAT week for high school sports in the area came on Friday evening as the governor added restrictions to what Winter sports can begin. I could understand a delay of when games can start but the way that it's being executed does not make sense to me.
The news broke during the AAA championship, which Bismarck Century dominated from start to finish. Sheyenne has a lot to be pleased about from their latest run to the title game and doubtless they'll be back in the future, but it was not their day.
That concluded a day which began with a come-from-behind loss by Lisbon in the first game at the Dome.
So needless to say, the greater Fargo area did not have much to celebrate at days end.
But then on Saturday the girls helped pick up some of the slack. From region 1 Northern Cass cruised by Kindred to make it state bracket. They'll go up against Dickinson Trinity Thursday evening.
As for the class A bracket, West Fargo continued their standout season with a win over Davies in the EDC final to earn the #1 seed from the East.
Now see the rest for yourself
The conclusion of those events meant the release of all-conference lists and the F/WF is well represented!

In addition to all those happenings on the West side of the river, Minnesota school's entered their next phase of Football. Moorhead did so with a narrow-by-their-standards win over Bemidji on Wednesday. D/G/F closed out their regular season with a 5-touchdown win against Virginia on Thursday. Park Christian also wrapped up but were on the wrong side of a 38-7 final against Fertile/Beltrami. Which came after Barnesville went score-for-score with Morris in a 65-56 game that the Trojans came out ahead. All four will head into their section tournaments in the coming days.
And on top of all that were even more college commitments by athletes from the area than the ones already included. I've said it and I'll keep saying it, this is a great time for sports in the area!
