Despite logic to the contrary, Minnesota opted to not jettison any of their likely free-agent departures before the trade deadline passed a few days ago. They weren't going to get much draft compensation for Harris or Reiff but it's still better to get something than nothing during a season that is still most likely not going to end even as well as the last one did.

Wednesday was a big day for NDSU athletics.

With nearly six months to go until the names are called, one of the national draftniks released his latest mock draft. This one has four quarterbacks being taken in the first nine picks, with Trey Lance projected to Washington at 7. Fast forward to the 20's and Dillon Radunz would join Jacksonville. The biggest takeaway is even as his competitors add more and more to their highlights Lance is sticking right with the top guys.

The next news came shortly thereafter as the men's & women's 🏀 conference schedules were released. There are some unique elements to this year, so take a look if you haven't already!

Then, on Friday the Softball team announced that Tharaldson Park has been selected as the "Field of the Year" for all of Division 1.

Which only leaves the latest "Keep Up!"

With the uncertain offseason still mostly looming, Minnesota's MVP was recognized for his performance this past season with a Silver Slugger award. Hard to say what Minnesota will offer Nelson Cruz or what he'll command on the open market, but he is totally deserving of whatever deal comes his way!

Instead of the home opener on Friday night against Lincoln, Fargo's 🏒 team was forced to rescheduled the two-game series due to "minimum safety standards not being met." We can all guess what that means, but it is a pretty ambiguous excuse so only a select few actually know.

Now they're set for a Friday night puck drop against Sioux Falls, after which they'll travel to the South for a rematch on their home ice. It's strange but that's pretty much the norm these days!

Prior to the 🏈 championship matchups being determined on Friday night and Saturday, the state girls aquatics field was set. Davies, Shanley, South, North, West Fargo & Sheyenne will all have representatives in Bismarck later this week.

As for the aforementioned 🏈 finals, Sheyenne will go against Century again this year after they beat Bismarck 28-21 on Friday. Saturday included Kindred & Hillsboro/CV both going for an appearance in the final game at AA but the Vikings lost to St. Mary's 20-15 while the Burros fell against Beulah 21-6. A little further away, Lisbon topped Velva 44-20 to make it back to the Dome.

In the gyms around the region, class A & class B are well underway in figuring out their state 🏐 field. South beat Central to setup a meeting with top-ranked West Fargo on Tuesday. On the other end of the bracket, North dispatched Devils Lake and will go against Sheyenne in two days. Also on Tuesday evening, Davies will host Valley City & Red River will be at Shanley.

A few days ago it was announced that Davies standout Grace Solberg will be attending Bethel and playing 🏐 for them. She is the latest of seeming endless stream of college level players to come out of the Fargo area across many sports!

On the court, in upcoming Region 1 tournament action, Hankinson will host Wyndmere/Lidgerwood, Oak Grove will be at Kindred, Central Cass will be at Richland & top-seeded Northern Cass will host Enderlin.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the river, Moorhead continued their domination with a 48-0 win over Brainerd on Thursday night. Then, yesterday, D/G/F went to Detroit Lakes and got some revenge for a narrow loss last season, 16-8.

Minnesota has a ways to go before 🏐 is complete but the Spuds have proven to be one of the best teams, with only three losses so far.
