The Week That Was

NDSU's week began with pair of young 🏃 being named League Performers of the Week!

🏐 checked in with honors as Syra Tanchin was named to the North Region Team!

Despite their first two losses of the season women's 🏀 remained in the Mid-Major Top-25.

Softball also joined in with the announcement of their 2023 schedule.

Prior to Friday night's game one of the All-American lists was announced, including three members of the team.

The week of competition began with men's 🏀 in Portland where they earned an improbable second victory of the season. The women were in Cedar Falls the next day but couldn't get off their recent slide. They each went again Saturday, with the same result as Montana beat the men in the second half while the women were outclassed by Green Bay.

The day before 🏈 took care of Samford. With the result later that night out West they found out that the semi-final would once again be at the Dome, against Incarnate Word. They will go for the trip to Frisco this coming Friday evening.

Just to the South, at the same time as the quarterfinal, hosted Minnesota for a top-15 dual and showed they're worthy of the national recognition along the way! They were back on the mat Sunday against Buffalo and finished well ahead after the bouts were over. It was the 100th win for their head coach, Roger Kish.

Sunday also included one more go on the court as the guys hosted NAIA Waldorf University, winning easily.

🏀 spent the weekend at home and took advantage of the cooking with a four game sweep. On the first night both the women & men cruised past Bemidji St.. Crookston didn't have much better of a time as they also lost by 20+ to the ladies & gents.

🤼 wasn't able to make it a six-way sweep as they visited Sioux Falls & Marshall.

Concordia started the week with three members of 🏈 being named All-Region.

When the competition began 🤼 opened with a pair of duals in Bismarck, one a win over Dickinson State & the other a loss to UMary.

🏀 also laced up Wednesday with the women losing to Augsburg by five while the guys took each half en route to their second conference victory. They were back on the court Saturday for what proved to be a sweep of St. Mary's, with the women taking control in the third quarter while the guys repeated their formula.

On the ice women's 🏒 dropped both games against Eau Claire Friday & Saturday.

The Howl got back above .500 with a win Friday as Gobert returned to Utah but followed it with a loss to Damian Lillard & Anfernee Simons who combined for 67 points. Along the way Anthony Edwards became the fifth-youngest player to eclipse 3,500 points and outright youngest to make 450 threes.

If you're like me you think that's an arbitrary number to use as a benchmark but stats are kept for just about everything now so better get used to it.

The Bolts opened their three-game weekend in Sioux City with a 3 - 2 loss Friday. The next day, in Omaha, they were the ones who got the hat track while only surrendering one score. They did one better Sunday and maintain their spot at the top of the conference.

They will be back at home on the 16th and then have three straight at SA to close out the calendar.

Reminder that scores and recruiting news are updated regularly so check back often!

Now for this week's highlights

The week started with the last of the previews (West Fargo boys).

In early-week action South hung six goals on West Fargo to win by five, which is what Moorhead scored in a visit to Roseau as they won by four. On Friday night Moorhead's girls dropped nine on Brainerd against one goal as well. West Fargo rebounded to force overtime against Sheyenne and Chase Mattern finished it off for the Green Team.

The Spud girls 🤼 also showed-out in Brainerd, taking second. Central Cass' also put together one of the best performances, beating Grand Forks' team 54 - 18. Sheyenne's boys had a 45-point win in G Forks Friday, which was bested by Davies Saturday with a 48-point victory.

On the court West Fargo's girls started the week with a 36-point win over Moorhead while North beat South by 50 & Davies took care of Central by 38. The second half of the N/S doubleheader went down to the wire, with the Spartans coming out on top. On Friday night West Fargo's girls made a statement to their newest cross-town foe, winning by 57. During the game standout guard Chloe Pfau joined the 1K Club. The tables were turned in the second game of that one as Horace's boys picked up their first varsity win, 89 - 87 over the Bulls.

Class B boys got underway and Oak Grove had one of the toughest tests in the state to start as Four Winds/Minnewaukan came to their building. #2 ranked Central Cass jumped in as well, with a 31-point win over May/Port/C/G/. On the girls side, Richland held Barnes County North to 10 points in a 46-point win, some of that goes toward playing good defense but it is exactly the sort of thing that the three class should help prevent. Enderlin then held them to that total as well, winning by 36. May/Port/C/G closed out the week with a 53 - 44 win over #1 Central Cass, even as Decontee Smith also scored her 1,000th point.

Across the River Moorhead's boys beat Rogers 90 - 64, Ada/Borup's beat Park Christian by by 37 & Lake Park/Audobon's were 38 better than Climax/Fisher. Fertile/Beltrami's girls added a 37-point win over Win/E/Mac.

That's the week in a nut-shell!
