Bison
In what will be a theme for all three colleges, the Bison women's Basketball team started with a visit by Wyoming but the Cowgirls wrangled up a victory, 66 - 57.
The men took the court at Idaho and got a needed W, 70 - 53 while showing an uptick in their effectiveness from deep.
After the break, the women played Northeastern in Boston but were on the wrong end of the 72 - 61 final score. The Football team also learned that they would be facing Nicholls on Saturday after their victory over North Dakota.
The lady Bison got back on the court on Sunday against New Hampshire and did what they had not yet done - won! A career-high 28 points from Sofija Zivaljevic prolled them to a 67 - 61 victory. The first of the year coincidentally was the 200th for coach Collins overall. Back at the SHAC, the Wrestling team hosted Augustana and took care of all but the two lightest weight classes, the 125 going the way of a forfeit. A strong way to close out the week for the Herd!
Dragons
The week started with the men's Basketball team rolling over Morris, 93 - 48. All 11 players that got on the floor scored & Bryce Irsfeld lead with 20.
Over the early weekend, the women were on the islands. They started with a 61 - 45 win over the U of Hawaii - Hilo in which Sarah Jacobson scored 15 while Megan Hintz had 12 and 11. On Thanksgiving day they were edged 62 - 60 by Cal State - San Marcos in overtime before hooking another ranked opponent to close out their trip. Moorhead State kept it close to the end but UC - San Diego also got the better of them 60 - 54.
The men closed out the week by spoiling Saul Philips' return 81 - 74. 26 came from Gavin Baumgertner and another 19 were from Irsfeld. Each team gets a well deserved, extended break now.
Cobbers
A pair of mid-week postponements resulted in the only game action of the week being a pair of outings by the women's Basketball team. On Friday they lost 96 - 58 to Simpson but rebounded yesterday against Buena Vista, 73 - 58. Autumn Thompson scored 19 and Mary Sem added 17 to lead the way and both outdo any of the opponents' offense.
Timberwolves
Before the "association" took it's back seat to pro Football the Howl pulled off a pair of double-digit victories, the second of which came at the house of the league's perennial contender - San Antonio. The positivity that could have been generated by those wins was stepped on by a loss to Memphis without two of it's top players, including Ja Morant. A bad loss, in case that needed to be said. On the bright side, the roster is starting to get healthy and is also taking some small steps to cultivate the youth of the roster for impact when the roster reshaping has lead to higher end talents coming via free agency or trade.
Force
Fargo split it's pair of games in the lead up to Thanksgiving Thursday. In Sioux Falls they lost 7 - 1 before returning home for one night against Dubuque. Austin Crossley got the scoring going as the two teams exchanged goals into the third period. After Dubuque tied it at 1 apiece, Tristan Broz regained the lead in the second. Half-way through the third, the Fighting Saints made it a 2 - 2 game before Fargo took control. Zach Faremouth put one in the net to retake the lead before Ondrej Pavel scored another two to make it a 5 - 3 victory. Five goals in under 10 minutes of play is just the latest example already this season of some fun hockey by the squad!
High School Sports
Limited game action this week because of the holiday and the weather that followed but a few of the final Basketball previews were released. Both Park Christian squads & earlier today for the Fargo North boys team. Check them out, if you hadn't already!
