The Week That Was

Prior to Saturday's win Kirk Cousins was named the Purple's sixth Player of the Week for the season! At about the same time the pro bowl rosters were announced, Minnesota's five are the most to make the initial roster since the 09 season. Here's hoping this one can last at least as long as that one did!

The front-loaded week began with Western Illinois, a win for the host ladies with a balanced offensive showing while the guys dropped their conference opener in Lincoln's state even as Grant Nelson went-off for 35 & 16. They were back at it Wednesday against St. Thomas and the results were the same.

In-between visited Missouri for another ranked duel but were shown that they have room for improvement.

Monday also brought more recognition for Cody Mauch as he was named the top offensive lineman in the country, the ninth-such honoree from the Rams! He was joined Thursday by Nash Jensen, Spencer Waege & Michael Tutsie on the Coaches All-American list.

The week was competition free but did include academic recognition as linebacker Josiah Behm was announced as an All-American Scholar!

Minnesota started the week with a nice win over Dallas which included one of their best quarters of the season thus far but they were brought back to Earth in the rematch & further shown what true contenders look like during a trip to Bean Town. They will continue the sea-board swing Monday in Miami.

Reminder that scores and recruiting news are updated regularly so check back often!

Now for this week's highlights

The holiday & weather-shortened week still included some especially-noteworthy performances.

Monday West Fargo's girls beat Valley City by 29 as Miriley Simon had a 37 point, 12 rebound, four steal & four block performance to improve her early-season stats that were already among the best in the State! Out of town Northern Cass beat L/L/M by 27 as Halle Crockett went-off for a school record 44 points!

The next day Thompson edged Central Cass in a 6/7 showdown while the #8 Jags took care of business again with a 25-point win over E/K/M. NC rounded out the week with a 49-point win over Hillsboro.

On the boys side Hankinson cruised to a 46-point win over Hatton/Northwood Monday. The next day Central Cass finished 35 points up on Maple River while the Burros beat H/N by 47! Northern Cass also managed a convincing victory over Tri-State, 72 - 38. Thursday the Squirrels traveled to Thompson for a top-4 throw-down and the defenses proved ready for the tilt, with the visitors coming out on top 48 - 34.

Across the river Hawley's boys traveled to Frazee for a 34-point win while Fertile/Beltrami beat Northern Freeze by 29. Park Christian's girls got their sixth win of the season over Climax/Fisher by 34 just ahead of the break. Moorhead hosted Detroit Lakes. West Fargo's second game of the week was just a point closer as Chloe Pfau scored 23 to pace a balanced attack over North.

On the ice Sheyenne came back from a 3 - 1 deficit to Jamestown in the third period to win 4 - 3 Monday! Moorhead hosted Roseau, winning 5 - 2 as they racked-up 39 shots. Their boys traveled to St. Michael and put together a 7 - 2 victory. South's boys doubled-up Devils Lake Tuesday with goals in every period to win 6 - 3.

On the mat Tuesday West Fargo pinned Becker 72 - 12 and then shutout South by 77 Thursday!

That's the week in a nut-shell!

Merry Christmas!!
