The Week That Was

Minnesota made a few more moves in their ongoing pursuit of quality depth. None of the three players added Monday are sure things, whatever that even means, but all are at positions of need as the draft preparation continues to take shape. The same goes for Mankato State alum Chris Reed who was signed away from Indianapolis Friday. Reed was primarily a backup but is an early favorite to earn the starting guard spot. The deviation from depth signings came as Patrick Peterson foresook other interested parties to return to the Purple on a one-year, $4,000,000 deal

In the midst of the moves also came the second mock draft, covering all seven rounds! Now that it's draft month the amount of mocks will increase, with multiple variations along the way so don't miss out!

It was all ⛳️ early in the week as both teams competed in South Carolina. The men finished in the top 3 while the ladies were just above the median at 8th out of 17. As the fourth month began, the week ratcheted up with certain members of 🏃 in Palo Alto Friday. The Cali contingent continued Saturday while the rest competed in Vermillion.

The previous day ⚾️ was in Macomb for the start of a three game series. They cruised to their seventh-straight win and got number eight in walk-off fashion. Nine proved to be out of reach as WIU built a 6 - 0 lead and the game was never closer than a grand slam from there.

Following a shutout loss in game one against Omaha, NDSU had the chance to get their own series win thanks to a 7 - 2 win of game two Saturday. Despite six innings of three-hit pitching by Paige Vargas NDSU dropped the finale 1 - 0.

Beyond the lines, Jasir Cox announced his transfer destination - West Virginia, to play for the namesake school. Ryan Cobbins also announced that she will be moving on after three years with Jory Collins and will play under the Tide. The news wasn't all movement related as Logan Williams was named Conference Player of the Week following a scorching week with the bat! Trevor Otterdahl & Amy Phillips also snatched the weekly hardware for what they accomplished in Raleigh.

Moorhead State wrapped March with their fourth & fifth wins of the season in Aberdeen which proved to be the high-point of the week. A close second would go to the track as four performers qualified for nationals. Which leaves bronze to the women's ⛳️ team as they had a third place showing in Waterloo.

The team had a shutout loss Saturday against Southwest and only got one off Mankato. Softball made a valiant effort to keep the success going Sunday but came up a run short against Bemidji before the wheels fell off in the second game. They will be right back at it Monday afternoon in Crookston.

Concordia's short week began with a pair of losses to St. John's ⚾️ Saturday. Softball Sunday wasn't much better but the women's 🎾 got an 8 - 1 win over UW-Superior to end the week. They dropped Saturday to St. Scholastica by the same score, as did the men in both their chances 9 - 0.

The penultimate week of the season still has the Howl in search of help to get out of the play-in but the Lakeless in concert with the Silent have kept the door open ever-so-slightly. Utah will need to drop a few more of their games to get jumped again but that is a real possibility as they've lost six of their last 10. If worse comes to worse they will get the home game against Los Angeles thanks to an overtime win by Chicago against the Cutters Thursday.

The week also included another milestone for Anthony Edwards as he became the youngest player in Association history with 200 made 3s in a season. Even with some of the struggles he's had of late it shows once again that he's an elite player - thank you Gersson Rosas!

The team will need him to be at that level with days & weeks remaining in the season.

With opening day just around the corner the Twinx added another starting arm from the bargain bin as Chris Archer signed a $3,500,000 deal which could be escalated to nearly $10,000,000 if he performs up to his previously-shown capabilities.

In addition to a third college commitment by a current member of their roster the Bolts broke a nine-game home losing streak against Omaha with an emphatic 7 - 1 win Saturday. They may have been able to do it a day sooner but Kevin Pasche was on another level, blocking all 55 of the shots that went his way! In the win seven guys got to blow off some steam as they went from a 1 - 1 tie, 5 minutes into the first period, to the victory.

The Birds made a move at mid-week, trading Kevin Krause to the Staten Island Ferry Hawks for a player to be named later but that was the extent of their dealings.

Reminder that scores are added daily plus there's a new home for recruiting news, so check back often!

Now for this week's highlights

The snow has barely disappeared but the preps weren't about to wait for Spring to spring. North was the first to take the diamond with a pair of games Saturday, beating Bismarck but coming up short in a pitchers duel against Century. Inside, at the NDSU track, Moorhead, Davies, Central Cass & Kindred were among the teams which excelled.

Maybe the most special occurrence of the week came from a distance as Oak Grove's Jake Ring was a part of the U18 National Curling Tournament

Beyond the lines, Shanley announced a pair of coaching hires as Kyle Emmanuel joined as the boys JV ⛳️ coach. That typically wouldn't have made the cut but having a former NFL player as a non-football coach has a distinctness so the exception was made. The Catholics also announced that former NDSCS head coach Craig Irwin will take over as the head boys 🏀 coach 14 years after stepping away. It's not every day that a coach with over 200 wins at the next level is available, much less interested so that's another unexpected, quality addition for Shanley.

The week also brought the first of the seasons softball polls, with the extended Fargo area well represented in both Class A & Class B!

After the announcement of the women's schedule last week the Fuze announced the coaches and began to get their 2022 roster set with division 1 players from across the country and the world.

Post 400 wasn't fooling around on the first as they ran their record to 7-0-1 with a pair of wins over two Sioux City teams. They kept it rolling Saturday & Sunday as both teams took care of business with some emphatic offense.
