The first game week of the season came & went with few ripples on the pond, even with the joint practices against Denver taking place Wednesday & Thursday. It all came to a head as fans were allowed to re-enter the Purple Palace en masse, for a game, for the first time in nearly two years.
It afforded the opportunity to get back into the Fall swing, but you'll have to tap the link to read more.
In the hours since the game they began the process of getting down to 85 by the Tuesday deadline with the release of long snapper Turner Bernard & defensive end Jordan Brailford. There's a player that everyone has been clamoring to get cut but so far, no such luck.
Preseason 🏈 recognitions continued to roll in this week. First, Jackson Hankey was nominated for the top linebacker award. He's the lone FCS LB to get the nod. A few days later another preseason All-American list was announced, with six players included among the first, second & third teams.
Track & field made some more news as former coach Don Larson was named to the National Coaches Hall of Fame while Shelby Gunnells was announced as the League's nominee for national Woman of the Year. In the effort to continue building the program after Payton Otterdahl's showing, they couldn't have gotten much better of news than those ones!
Sandwiched among them was the renewed & improved Fall kickoff fan day.
The Dragons are preparing for take-off, which is another way to say that there isn't much of note for them yet.
But 🏐 broke through as hitter Amanda Carlson was chosen as a conference player to watch on the coaches poll.
Jaden McDaniel's team pushed their record in Vegas to 4-0 with a 99-96, overtime win over Philadelphia. Due to point-differential rules that was not good enough for them to qualify for Tuesday's championship game. It's the sour at the end of a mostly-sweet time on the court by the guys who will get some run when the main team gets back to work the end of next month.
They also announced the preseason schedule, it will start with a visit by Zion Williamson on October 4th, followed by three games against Denver, LAC & Brooklyn. If the development shown over the last week continues into & through those games then the run-it-back strategy will be proven a success. That's a big if, but is still better than many of the seasons by the franchise!
Three wins, three losses. They took care of Kane County before heading to Sioux Falls & hitting a speed bump. So they're 3.5 games behind Milwaukee & 2.5 behind Chicago. With the next nine at home against teams far from contending, the race for first place will only tighten & may get shuffled ahead of the final weeks of the season.
If Pitcher of the Week Luke Lind can keep dealing then the offense, lead by newly-minted Mr. 1000, Correlle Prime will be in an even better position to help jump the lake front teams.
The school year is in it's infancy but there have already been a handful of results for some ⚽️ clubs, highlighted by the opener for the reigning EDC champs, West Fargo Sheyenne.
Check back regularly to see scores & don't miss out on the recruiting news as it continues to unfold!
Some say the third time is the charm. Sometimes that proves to be true. But the Invaders, going against St. Paul on Saturday, weren't able to overcome the opposing defense enough to advance to the championship. With a 3 - 0 lead going into the half, it was either team's game until the fourth quarter, when St. Paul stretched their lead to two scores with six minutes remaining. Despite having an offense that is geared toward scoring fast the differential wouldn't change again, 15 - 6. They finished the year with a 6-6 record. Jon Baune was the offensive MVP with 575 yards & nine touchdowns while Cornelius Wahlo gets the defensive for his team-leading five sacks.
The upstarts from 42nd St. hit the wall in Shelby, NC. They played hard in the opener but fell to Hawaii 7 - 1. In the second game Post 400 got bludgeoned by Mississippi 11 - 1. Their tournament experience ended at the hands of Maryland, 8 - 3. It's not how they wanted the tournament to go but with the odds that they bucked to make the world series they will be talked about in the baseball community for years to come & should be celebrated when they return!
That came after the Fargo Little League team came within a win over the championship game.
Anyone who thinks ⚾️ is dead locally is not paying attention!
