The Week That Was

Before putting a bow on the preseason Minnesota had to get under the league-mandated 80-man roster and in the process they shored up QB2 by making a trade with Las Vegas for Nick Mullens. The move also showed a better temperament by KA-M than Spielman had, because the former GM probably would have sent another third or fourth round pick instead of a seventh in the 2024 draft.

A man named Kreuser will be headed to Deutschland, that fits like a glove! The stalwart forward signed his first professional contract to play in Nurnberg.

Some of the future pros also received more positive feedback as the Senior Bowl included Hunter Luepke (Human Rhino), Cody Mauch & Noah Gindorff on it's preseason watch list. Many of the people who pony-up to see them in person will have new experiences this season as new elements of game day were announced.

⚽️ started a long weekend in the Cities with their first outright win of the seaosn, 2 - 0 over Utah Tech as Moorhead's own Olivia Watson netted the decisive point. They will go again Monday afternoon before traveling to Craig Bohl U for a match Friday.

🏐 spent the weekend even further South, at the SE Missouri Invitational. They finished both of Friday's contests ahead 3 - 2, saving their best for last with a shutout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. They will be in Louisiana next weekend for another round-robin event.

Then came the biggest news of the week as Cordell Volson was confirmed as a starter for Cincinnati by one of their beat writers.

Moorhead State's first foray into the week came by way of the announcement that Alexis Konecne will take over as the head 🎾 coach after two years serving as an assistant.

Head 🤼 coach Kris Nelson kept it going with announcement of the 2022 signing class.

As competition commenced 🏐 started the season with a pair of splits Friday & Saturday in Billings. After the event concluded Brooke Walthall & Bridget Witzmann were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Cornies had their final full week without competition but the preparation for September continued to ramp-up. One week out from their season opener in Valley City Terry Horan's squad announced the 2022 roster and it is a doozy!

One week closer to the season, Minnesota made another addition to it's roster. CJ Elleby agreed on a deal a few weeks ago but only just now signed it. They also added former Iowa star Luka Garza on an Exhibit 10 deal, which is the lowest of the several contracts possible. The number one take-away is that they are aiming to have as competitive & deep of a training camp as they possible can!

Cleveland remains atop the division by two games, with eight remaining against Minnesota. If they fail, they will fail hard! With Byron Buxton out for who-knows-how-long the odds of the bats consistently pulling their weight to prevent the finalized collapse are that much more unlikely. As if to put a little salt in it, the 2023 schedule was released, with the highest number of home games coming in April - because everyone knows the weather is so splendid that time of year... June & August were not far behind with the other three months of the season all having 12 games.

The final home-stand of the regular season began with John Silviano being named Association Batter of the Week. Even as they stayed hot, taking 2 of 3 from both Gary & Winnipeg, they were unable to gain any more separation from Kansas City. Three in Sioux City could aid in changing that but it's looking more and more like the final four games of the schedule will tell the tale of all 100! Of course it would be even better if the games were in Fargo but securing home field at the challengers place would be sweet as well.

Reminder that scores and recruiting news are updated regularly so check back often!

Now for this week's highlights

The Davies girls started the week with a 25-stroke win Tuesday. Later that day South & Sheyenne took down Wahpeton & West Fargo in straight sets. The day ended with Davies boys ⚽️ hanging a touchdown on North.

Moorhead's boys opened the season Thursday with a shutout win over Grand Rapids as all three scores came from different sources. Across the river & down the road Davies edged Sheyenne in their first meeting of the season. South 🎾 backed-up Tuesday with a 7 - 2 victory over Shanley. Sheyenne followed suit by taking down Mandan (8 - 1), Legacy (7 - 2) & Jamestown (9 - 0) over the weekend.

The eve of the weekend also included some best-of as #1 Sheyenne & #4 Shanley handled Legacy & Bismarck with ease while #5 South & #2 North were even more better against Williston & Central. Though far from as lop-sided, West Fargo also got a significant win, taking down #2 Century by a missed extra point. #1 Kindred used a dominant running-attack to take down #3 Hillsboro/CV in the signature game of class A.

In the capital 🏐 teams from across the state converged for a pair of days on the court, with a total number of results that need to be seen to be believed.
