FEATURED

July 5 Edition

It was a fairly uneventful week for the big school but they did get some pro news as Tyson Ward was signed to a new contract in Germany's top division. If he can take another step then the Spanish League could come calling. From there, the Association is a possibility! But first he'll need to improve upon what he already was able to do in Germany.

Minnesota's volume of young players were stunted last Summer when they couldn't get on the court in Vegas. Well, now two of those guys will have an even better opportunity to hone their skills than the Summer league can boast - Anthony Edwards & Naz Reid are among the USA Select players who will work out with the Olympians before they head to Tokyo. That's great for the last #1 overall pick but is an indictment against the talent evaluators of the second-year big man. As if there wasn't enough reason to be excited about what may happen on the court as soon as the upcoming season, this adds to it!

Three of the 44 players invited to the World Junior Summer Showcase donned the Black & Blue. A pessimist may say that a 7% stake is shrug-worthy. But of all the 🏒 players vying for D1 scholarships and expanded opportunities on their clubs that's more proof of the successful way that Fargo is being run and it's a great opportunity for Jack Peart, Tristan Broz & Scott Morrow!

One more note from the 2021 season came out as Gavin Lindberg & Kenny Bohney were name first-team All-Section for Moorhead Lacrosse while Thomas Schroeder & Gavin Feil made the second team. As the section champs it followed that Andrew Law would also get the nod as Coach of the Year.

Along with that, Sheyenne's Alex Urlaub was named ⚾️ Player of the Year

On the heels of a mini-slump the Birds had their fireworks display scoring 12, 11, 10, 14 & 13 runs while winning six of their seven games to move only a .5 game back of the now-first-place Chicago squad and a tie with Milwaukee, who they swept over the weekend. Those outcomes appropriately followed as infielder Leobaoldo Pina began the week leading the association in offense. To bolster the other part of the game they added a familiar face at the ballpark, former Bison lefty Luke Lind as another option in relief. They'll have the chance to wrestle the league lead away from Chicago over the next six games at Winnipeg & Lincoln.

The Kick Club's women had a 4 - 0 loss Maplebrook that was called early due to a player injury. A couple days later the men went to Pelican Rapids for a "friendly" that ended in their favor, 6 - 4. In the ongoing efforts to grow the game locally this will likely not be the last time such a showcase happens, and with results like that one more kids may choose to prioritize it over other options. Is that a stretch? Maybe but the possibility can't be wholly ruled out.

Oak Grove's Legion team also had an offensive explosion to start the week, defeating Hope/Finley 19 - 6. The "Blues" should have been anything but after their week-opener in Thief River Falls winning 12 - 2 after scoring nine in the first game and getting edged by a single run. West Fargo also put on a show, this time on the mound as Casey Clemenson threw a perfect game against Bismarck. The 4 - 0 win followed a 2 - 1 loss. Post 2 was even better against Williston, taking game 1 11 - 4 and the rematch 9 - 4.

The 400 followed suit against Williston, taking them down 8 - 0 and a 11 - 5. Moorhead ended the month with a pair against Alexandria. You could say it was a high-note as they left Matson Field having given up only 1 run while scoring 4 & 3. They went into the holiday break in Bemidji but were stymied 3 - 1 only to bounce back with a 4 - 3 victory. The Deuce got to 10-games above .500 (15-5) with wins over Watertown 4 - 1 & 8 - 4. In the first W Connor Holm threw a complete game while Adam Leininger was involved in six of the eight runs in the other.

They went into the break with two more wins. Minot kept the first game close, 2 - 1 but P2 finished with a little more breathing room in the other, 4 - 1. Elias Harris & Zach Lamont both went the distance. D/G/F traveled to Pelican Rapids for their final games before the weekend and showed that they're rounding into shape, 12 - 0 & 11 - 1.
