Bison
After an unofficial exhibition against Concordia on Monday, the week went into overdrive. The Baseball team followed the 10-2 win by taking two of three against Fort Wayne. They gave up more than 5 runs in each of the games but the bats more than picked up the slack. It's not the best recipe for the kind of success they're looking for but is a good option in a pinch.
In the day's in-between Baseball games, the best of the week played out. The women's Track team made it 24 straight Summit League title's with a 65 point margin of conquest. Within the team were four event winner's and plenty more top finishers. For the full list of accomplishments, I recommend checking out the official recap! The Men of the Field were a close second with their own team title and individual winners. The recap is worth more than a cursory glance but the main take away for both halves is that NDSU will once again get a chance to shine on the national stage!
But before they'll get the chance, Softball will already have gotten their moment in the sun. Who knows, maybe it'll be more than just one moment! Minnesota is seeded for a reason so getting a win will be no small feat and Georgia would make for another impressive win in the program's history, if it all shakes out that way. The equalizer could be the extra motivation that can be summoned when facing a team which didn't want you. That's the case for ten of NDSU's ladies so Friday evening could be a once in a lifetime opportunity and fun viewing to boot!
Dragons
It was all Track for the Dragons. With the Fargo Marathon a week away it was fitting that Nadir Yusuf would bring home the hardware in the 5,000 M. His effort paced the pack for the men as they collectively worked their way to fifth place in the conference. Joining him on the All-Conference list was Chris Cook: High Jump (1st), Shyrone Kemp: High Jump (2nd); Triple Jump (2nd) & Logan Storm: Pole Vault (3rd). On the women's side it was a one person show as Anna St. Catherine: Pole vault (3rd) was the lone All-NSIC performer.
Cobber
As with their Moorhead cohorts, Concordia was down to Track & Field but unlike Moorhead State, the Cobbs started the week with one last Baseball game, against NDSU. The outcome is what you probably guess - 10-2, Bison. A few days later the Track & Field team's travelled to St. Thomas. After day 1 the women were in third place but as Saturday ended it was seventh & sixth for the men & women respectively. A short and bittersweet end that still included some positive results with athletes from each portion of the squad putting up solid performance while possessing the ability to return for at least one more year of competition in the MIAC!
Twins
The Twinks continue to mash the stuffing out of the ball on at a rate that almost guarantees a new record. I'm still skeptical about the long term viability of the pitching staff but the signs are still more positive than neutral or negative!
Force
Fargo's hockey team filled the coffers of future talent as the 2019 USHL draft unfolded a few days ago. The first two selections already have high major college commitments while several of the others may well be on their way to such distinction! For the full list of draftees hit the links! High School Sports
High school games of all sorts happened across the FMWF this week and each of them produced quality photographic moments! So go check out the gallery section. 🙂
Redhawks
The red birds only just started the exhibition portion of their season but the first three went the way of Winnipeg. They have two more chance's to get on the same page before the season starts in Kansas City on Friday. The weather may not feel like it day in & day out but Summer is coming! If graduations weren't proof enough of that then maybe local, pro Baseball will help? Yes, yes it will!
Invaders
The Invaders continued their early season mauling. On the heels of a 49-0 laugher, they put up 47 while allowing zero points again. Uff-da! There's a bit of a disconnect as only 21 of the announced 47 points have been credited to anyone which is quite a disparity. What doesn't seem to be in question is the goose egg by the opponent for the second straight game. It'll be more than a month before they don their jersey's in Fargo again but if they can keep up the sort of pace over the next 3 games that they have through the first two then they'll be well worth the time!
