Reaching a little further back than last Monday because of the football championship, the Central Cass/Hawley boys basketball game from the Saturday before deserves all the mentions!

In case you haven't heard, Casselton's Cole Holzer and Hawley's Brevin Stoa each rewrote the records for their school with 59 & 61 point outbursts in the opening game of the day.

As many games as I've seen over the years, sports continues to prove that any given contest can be a stupendous experience and that one is right up there among the best from all levels!

In contrast to those eruptions the Force merely maintained their five-alarm-fire of a season, getting to win #35 and being the first to secure a spot in the postseason!

With 19 games to go (10 at home) there is a strong possibility they will also re-establish a benchmark that currently sits at 48 wins from the 98/99 season.

Concordia's women also kept an impressive season going, finishing the regular season with a 34-point stomp of St. Scholastica to win 18 conference games in back-to-back years. As a reward they will get to jump to the MIAC semi-finals on Thursday in their timeless facility!

While it hasn't been as successful of a season, the Cobber men are also back into the field for the first time since 2016. They will get a chance to take a rubber-match with Hamline at their place Tuesday evening!

Both of NDSU's teams have a few weeks to figure out their positioning but Heaven Hamling already put herself into position for future school hall of fame consideration by becoming the fifth-highest scoring player!

Postseason positions are also still in flux for Moorhead State with one weekend remaining. The women have come a long way from their 0-7 start to the season and like the men are firmly in the top-12 of the tournament field. Each will need to continue improving to reach Sioux Falls and for the ladies especially, to reach the D2 national.

It may not be March yet but there is plenty of big moments on the horizon for all the local teams!

The previous week also brought a season sunset as the Moorhead girls hockey team weren't able to limit Roseau's scoring or put home enough of their own to win the section championship again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Even with that, it was another superb for the Fargo area sports scene which also included a state runner-up finish by the Sheyenne boys wrestling team, the only one from the East to win out of the opening round!
