Sunday 7

For the fourth-straight year Moorhead HS's boys lacrosse claimed the Section title and will be off to the state tournament Monday. ICYMI, you can see photos of the overtime victory.

The Spuds will try to do what D/G/F softball wasn't able to do - win. Results aside, it was a great showing by the Rebels as they gave up three total runs over the two games that they played. Their bats just weren't able to produce.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

While they're at the ends, Post 2 is just beginning but already has an accomplishment for their season, reaching the championship of the Lincoln East Classic. After earning a 4 - 0 win over CLR (NE) Saturday, the Deuce was taken to the wire by them in the final but managed to win 10 - 9!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Those results came after Sheyenne forward Tommy Ahneman became a major focus for the B1G, receiving offers from Northwestern, Nebraska & Minnesota, to go along with earlier ones from Iowa and Penn State. With a lot of AAU season left to unfold it's anyone's guess where the ceiling for offers is!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

That also applies to Moorhead running back Taye Reich who was offered by Chris Klieman a couple days after his freshman year concluded. As the starting RB for Kevin Feeney it was obvious he has talent but that sort of a beginning to the recruiting process crystalizes his stratosphere!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was also a banner week for NDSU track & field as Lexi Maples (hammer throw) & Matt Kraft (Javelin) earned second-team and honorable-mention All-American for their performances at Nationals!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Which just leaves the biggest story of the week - Ju$tin Jeffer$on

Time will tell whether retaining him versus getting a haul of draft capital was the right choice but much of it will hinge on McCarthy's development. If he can be merely a top-15 quarterback in year two then signing Jefferson and all the subsequent moves made possible by the rookie salary hack will put the franchise into the strata of the 09 team, possibly three or four times over. That is the upside.

There are several ways it could go wrong but I'm not such a miserable person that I'm going to stomp on your Summers with those scenarios. If you want to think or talk about those, I suggest taking a LOOOOONG walk on each of the many wonderful days that we are blessed with this time of year!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was another memorable week for the Fargo area sports scene!
