October baseball has been a miserable experience for a giant portion of the life of every fan of Minnesota's pro team. The misery came crashing down this week as the playoff losing streaks of games and series ended in a two-game sweep of Toronto. Their reward was a best-of-5 against the defending champions from Houston, who won with a decent amount of ease in game one. In the second game it was the Central Champs who jumped on the lead and barely had to sweat in making it a 1-1 series ahead of the return to Minneapolis!

The dream is looking more and more like it might actually become reality!!

Then there was the Purple losing their fourth in five games.

That came a day after NDSU got back on track with a blow-out win of Missouri State. In addition to a return to the form of the first three games by the defense and Cam Miller, Zach Mathis had a career day stretching his six grabs into 160 yards & a pair of scores! His talent has never been in question, it was always a matter of him staying healthy. He's well on his way to going back-to-back seasons with minimal missed time which would put him in solid position for the League.

Mathis was the star for the offense and the same applies to Cole Wisniewski who snagged his fourth interception of the season and came a few steps shy of running it all the way back!

The surprise development came from Owen Johnson who racked up the game-high in yards on the ground, thanks in large part to a 55-yard scamper. He's not one to be counted on as a primary option but getting that sort of a showing every once in a blue moon just makes the headache for defenses more severe!

It all came as Miller dissected the defense to the tune of a 16 yards/completion average. He and they have to do it against the other best teams in the conference but that can only happen if they beat those whom they should dominate.

To boil it all down, the latest stop on the journey to Texas was neither a second loss to South Dakota or a North Dakota distraction-induced mess. Being that we are still so early in guys' opportunities to play significant amounts that is a great sign!

It's certainly on the fringe of the Fargo sports scene but the nearest professional soccer operation announced a change of leadership, firing Adrian Heath with two matches remaining before their postseason.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Back in the radius, Shanley completed an EDC Championship run with a shutout win of the four-seed, Red River. They only lost one time during the season. They will face Bismarck in the third match Thursday while two-seed Davies gets Minot & West Fargo hooks Jamestown to end the opening day.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sheyenne & Davies boys teams also locked-in their chance to swing at the State Tennis Tournament in Grand Forks, Thursday.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Davies graduate Gabe Benson also earned a headline becoming just the second Cobber to win the MIAC Meet!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another shining week for the Fargo area sports scene!
