You may not be aware of it, but a few days ago the 2020/2021 high school year had it's last event, the basketball all-star games in Bismarck & West Fargo. With those young men & young women went about as much talent in one graduating class as Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo will muster.
Every sport through all three seasons of the calendar had at least one recruit going onto to compete at the next level with many of them earning division two & division one opportunities. It's more proof that we're in a golden age of sports in the region!
But now comes the question that was inevitable and yet rarely mentioned as the weeks til football is back wane: who are the star players of the future?
Carson Hegerle (WF), Austin Altepeter & Jack Teiken (MHD) are blazing the trailing as the top male standouts of the 2022 class. South's Adie Wagner is primed to be the top female athlete in the area this year, it's hard to believe she's already a senior!
But compared to the last class, that leave's quite a vacuum to be filled.
As the decades have proven, great players will continue to come up through the ranks and with all the space that has been vacated, juniors & sophomores will have a great chance to get on the fields & court and begin their journey to joining the college ranks. That creates a challenge in discussing the upcoming seasons, even more so than a year ago. (Having something be more tenuous than sports last Summer is quite a feat but it's not a stretch to say so.) That also means we're going to have the opportunity to watching the future begin to unfold before our eyes starting in a few weeks! 🎉 🎊
