Twin Cities 2-fer

Girls

Following a first-half that had the Spuds stuck on Rylie Polomny's eight points to start the game, Moorhead battled back with the kind of want-to that I was able to capture in the picture of the game. Down 26 - 14 at the break they cut it to a single-shot deficit multiple times, but just weren't quite able to get over the last two hurdles of tying it and taking the lead. But they never gave up. Even in a loss, it was a great early season showing by Moorhead! Polomny's 17 paced the team but it was her teammates that carried much of the weight in the comeback.

Final Score

Maple Grove 46, Moorhead 40

Boys

The guys picked up the energy that the ladies got started in the gym and made the most of it. I say that, not ignoring the 20 - 8 lead that Benilde/St. Margaret was able to open up the game with, but recognizing how the second game of the night played out. The Spuds closed out the half with a buzzer-beating layup that made it a two-shot game, 35-29.

After returning to the court for the final 18 minutes, they blitzed with threes and layups, almost at will. The quartet of Drew Hagen, Belind Alemadi, Quentin Hegg & Trey Feeney all finished with at least 13 points which the Red Knights could not keep pace with.

Final Score

Benilde-St. Margaret 66, Moorhead 87
