"You have given me relief when I was in distress"
Some said it about last Sunday's game & it was true at that point. I think it's now accurate to say that this was the best performance of the season by the Purple.
Justin Jefferson - mostly unguardable
Kirk Cousins - as unflappable as he's ever been in a game
Dalvin Cook & Adam Thielen - dependable options in key situations
Sheldon Richardson had his best game in the uniform being used at times as an edge rusher. It's the reverse of the Hunter/Griffen inside success against NOLA a few years ago and shows that the old dog has some tricks up his sleeves.
There were a couple of blown assignments by the defense early & late but overall they were collectively-solid limiting Mr. Manbun.
Capitalizing on the dropped INT by not letting Rodgers get the ball back should go down as one of the five best decisions in Zimmer's tenure. For Cook to have the presence of mind to not run into end zone is one of the best decisions he's made on the field.
And that set up the nail by Greg Joseph. For all the hyperventilating that happens about kickers he continues to prove that he's got the capability to be clutch.
The team is back to .500 and playoff talk can seriously happen around the dinner table this week!
But first comes the other end of the spectrum
Even when the team is able to build two score leads they have yet to crack the code on holding onto them until time runs out. Cousins threw two interceptions today that should have foiled the win. That will happen some times with an aggressive passing attack such as they've been going with over the last two weeks. It's not a complaint about those near turnovers but just the necessary mention of two potentially-game-changing plays.
This is more of a complaint. Going against the stout defensive line for Green Bay, our OL had some turn-style to it. Mason Cole set the tone right away when he was bull-rushed back into Cousins. It wasn't bad on every play but there were protection issues all game long so the concern over that group needs to remain.
