A Tale of Two Games

After each team had scored a pair of points, West Fargo went on a 9-0 run that they stretched slightly higher, to double-digits with 2/3 of the first-half left. Davies made a switch to their strategy, pressuring the ball-handlers at all points of the court and after only 90 seconds of game time, they had trimmed the deficit to one long shot. They kept their surge going with the knotting shot and game went back & forth until the final minutes. Over the final four, they scored all seven points, take go into the locker room up 34 - 27.

Then it was Davies turn to find their answer, which they did in quick fashion and the score seesawed from there. For every score, there was an answer. For every steal, there was a block or an unforced turnover. It was a chess match on the court. Even after Davies built a slight advantage on the board, West Fargo had an answer and in crunch time they managed to shake off earlier struggles from the line. With 6.6 seconds left and the game tied, McKenna Becher drove to the hoop for a layup and drew a foul. She stepped to the line and put her team up one. After a quick timeout, she toed the line again and put her team up a pair. The Eagles got a decent look with their final shot but to no avail.

Final Score

West Fargo 64, Davies 62

Davies had five players with at least 8 points, led by Ryleigh Wacha with 13 and Taylor Fey with 11. Becher finished with the game-high 21 along with 16 by Miriley Simon & 12 by Ashlyn Diemert.

If that was the drama, and it was, then the second game was the party on senior night. Davies jumped out to a 22-0 lead which sparked a quick substitution set by West Fargo. Carter Birrenkott stopped the bleeding briefly with two points for the Green team. Once the starters were reinserted they managed to play with the Eagles for a good portion of the half but a 22-point cushion made every possession matter for the visitors and they couldn't string together enough stops and scores to alter the course of the game. And with time winding down Davies extended their advantage to 47 - 15.

Well into the second half and the home team still had a double-up on their hands. Even when the reserves took the floor to close the game they managed to sustain it briefly but West Fargo was able to avoid that footnote to the game.

Final Score

Davies 85, West Fargo 44

Birrenkott lead the way for West Fargo with 12. Davies got 23 apiece by Grayson Haman & Cameron Van Dam with another 10 by Ty Satter.
