Halves Make the Whole

As the #3-ranked team in North Dakota, it's not news that Davies is a title contender. On Friday night they hosted West Fargo, who have put together a good season with a much younger roster.

For the first-third of the opening half the lead see-sawed between them. Even after Davies got some momentum in their direction and gained the lead by a few points West Fargo kept it from getting out of hand.

The teams returned to the locker room with Davies ahead 33 - 28.

Seconds after play resumed Taylor Safranski drained a three. That shot (and maybe the halftime chat) was all the spark that the Eagles would need. Over the first six minutes of the second half they went on an 18 - 2 run. If not for the timeouts taken by West Fargo and the emphatic nature of coach Benson in the huddles it could have been overlooked, the Eagles just did it that surgically.

Until Davies pulled their starters they managed to answer every basket or quick burst that West Fargo mustered. It wasn't until there was less than 90 seconds left that the difference dropped below 20 points and stayed there. Brynn Giesen hit a bank-shot to cut it 15 and Solvieg Seymour added a triple just before the horn to make the final score pretty close to an exact representation of how the whole game went.

Davies 74, West Fargo 62

11 different players contributed points for Davies, lead by Taylor Fey's 14. Ryleigh Wacha was right behind with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ava Wild (11) & Ashton Safranski (10) also finished in double figures.

In contrast, West Fargo got all their offense from six sources. A game-high 20 by Miriley Simon was accompanied by 15 from Giesen. Seymour was third on the team with nine. Simon also had a dozen rebounds.
