WW: HOT June!

Date line - June 26, 2.0.1.9.

A great scenario for many residents of this part of the world over these Summer months is a hot grill with a full cooler at any of the many tremendous lakes within easy driving distance. As much as it ever does, sports typically take a backseat. I'd gladly raise my hand along with the rest on that fact. Letting it go down to a simmer for a couple of months is a welcome change - part of the reason I'm glad I don't write for a print media.

The twist is that there's still a lot of great thing's going on within the regions athletics. Rumors & breaking news are still happening on a near daily basis. Whether it's talk of who the Twins won't trade for, but could, or which of the area's several high caliber prep stars are committing to play at NDSU & who the Bison men will be playing in Basketball this Winter or the Redhawks who are in the midst of a nine game winning streak, Fargo sports are HOT right now. With respect to the first and last, I think the best part of the end of June heat wave goes the way of the university. If I were to parse it further I'd pretty quickly go the way of the young men who are staring down their last days of high school life.

There are some stark exceptions but the overwhelming majority of North Dakota players to compete at NDSU in Football end up along the front line. That trend won't be changing any time soon but the next generation of NoDak's will have plenty of talent at the skill spots too. After a pair of nearby Minnesota natives (Seth Anderson MHD & Mason Miller Ada-Borup) announced their intentions to play for the Bison came word that Fargo Davies Receiver/Safety Ty Satter would be staying in town.

The commits went quiet for a couple weeks after that but with NDSU having their camp over the past weekend, the decisions have been coming every day. The early 2020 class got players from Nebraska, Missouri, Florida & Iowa and right along with them came the announcement that Hillsboro standout Oscar Benson would be staying closest to home. He's another 2 way high school player but was a running back on offense this past season for the Borros.

Then earlier today came the announcement that West Fargo Sheyenne's Tyler Terhark would be staying in town as well. Like his fellow 'new, South part of town, future teammate' Terhark has been a Receiver & Safety for the Mustangs. The number of North Dakota native players will be far out numbered by out of state & out of region talent but as with Ryan Smith & Tyler Roehl, it will give the fans that personal connection that everyone likes to have with their favorite team!

But I can't talk about the Bison without at least mentioning the waves that the Basketball team is managing to make already. Off their NCAA appearance, the men have already got dates set against Kansas State, Marquette, Indiana State & East Tennessee State with home games being against ETSU & Cal Poly. A fair wager that Dave Richman's bunch will get another tournament caliber team or two on the schedule before the whole thing is released but easing out the team's that already on the docket has been a great way to stay on the radar of the fanbase.

It's like I said, though the weather hasn't been blisteringly so, the sport's scene remains very hot! With only a few weeks until Football camps are under way, a hard break from the action may not really come this year but I for one will take that, the way it's gone so far!

That's all I've got to say for now though, so until the next time, have a great rest of your week!
